Alexander Campbell
Memoirs of Elder Thomas Campbell (1861)

ABOUT THE ELECTRONIC EDITION.

The following of Thomas Campbell's works were first published in Alexander Campbell's Memoirs of Elder Thomas Campbell (Cincinnati, OH: H. S. Bosworth 1861):

Thomas Campbell's "Declaration and Address" was first published as a separate publication, Declaration and Address of the Christian Association of Washington (Washington, PA: Washington Christian Association, 1809). Its appearance in Alexander Campbell's Memoirs of Elder Thomas Campbell (Cincinnati, OH: H. S. Bosworth 1861), pp. 25-109, is the first publication of the work containing Thomas Campbell's corrections and Alexander Campbell's notes on the text.

The "Farewell Discourse of Thomas Campbell" was first published in Millennial Harbinger, 4 (Fourth Series), No. 3, March 1854, pp. 133-145. Its first book appearance was in Alexander Campbell's Memoirs of Elder Thomas Campbell (Cincinnati, OH: H. S. Bosworth 1861), pp. 215-231.

Thomas Campbell's "Prospectus of a Religious Reformation" was first issued as a pamphlet, probably in Cincinnati, 1829. (See editorial note on the Prospectus concerning the facts of publication.) Its publication in Alexander Campbell's Memoirs of Elder Thomas Campbell (Cincinnati, OH: H. S. Bosworth 1861), pp. 253-264, represents its first appearance as a contribution to a book.

In the printed text, Alexander Campbell's remarks and Thomas Campbell's writings are distinguished by the latter's work being set in a smaller type; in the electronic edition, Thomas Campbell's writings have been set off as extended quotations. In the printed text, footnotes are indicated by asterisks, daggers, and other printer's devices; in the electronic text, the notes have been numbered sequentially and treated as endnotes. Pagination has been represented by placing the page number in brackets following the last complete word on the printed page. I have let stand variations and inconsistencies in the author's (or editor's) use of italics, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. Only two corrections are offered:
