Benjamin Lyon Smith
The Millennial Harbinger Abridged (1902)

ABOUT THE ELECTRONIC EDITION.

The electronic edition of Benjamin Lyon Smith's The Millennial Harbinger Abridged has been produced from a two-volume copy of the printed text published by Standard Publishing Company (Cincinnati, OH: 1902). The electronic edition has been produced from text scanned by Colvil L. Smith and formatted by Ernie Stefanik

Pagination in the electronic version has been represented by placing the page number in brackets following the last complete word on the printed page. In the printed text, footnotes are indicated by printer's devices (asterisks, daggers, etc.); in the electronic text, they are treated as sequentially numbered endnotes. Inconsistencies in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and typography have been retained; however, misspellings and other accidental corruptions have been indicated by the Latin term sic, signifying that the text has been reproduced as originally printed.

Since Benjamin Lyon Smith's documentation of sources is often sparse or absent throughout the anthology, his selctions from The Millennial Harbinger have been cited fully at the end of each part. The volume numbers of the magazine have been indicated by assigning sequential numbers to the first thirty-five volumes instead of following Alexander Campbell's seven-year cycle of numbering. Thus, instead of Campbell's designation of "New Series, Volume 1," in 1837, the volume has been specified as "Volume 8"; instead of "Series 5, Volume 7," in 1864, the volume has been specified as "Volume 35." The volumes for 1865-1870, under the editoriship of W. K. Pendleton, were numbered 36-41. For a chronological enumerative list of the original texts, see Sources from The Millennial Harbinger, 1830-1870.

Addenda and corrigenda are earnestly solicited.

Created 10 December 2002.
