J. V. Updike From Wyandot County, Ohio (1875)

From Wyandot County, Ohio.

DEAR BRO. FORNEY: According to appointment, we commenced our meeting at Kirby, Ohio, on the 5th of April. Have had a glorious time; the meeting is still in progress. Up to this time twenty have made the good profession, and twenty have united with the Church of God at Kirby, thirteen have been baptized during the meeting at that place.

Yesterday, the 25th, I preached at Rock Run, Indian Mills S. H., and Center S. H. After preaching at the Indian Mills S. H., to a large concourse of people on the subject of Christian baptism, we went to the river, "because there was much water there," and in the presence of about two thousand people I baptized fifteen happy believers. Oh, what a glorious time it was! Some call me a water fowl. I do love to go into the water to do my Master's will. In the evening, at center S. H., I extended the right hand of Christian fellowship to three persons, one an old member of the U. B. Church, and one from Albrights; the other got religion since we closed the meeting at that place. I am having more calls for preaching than I am possibly able to fill. O, that I could do more to save poor sinners.

            Yours with love,
J. V. UPDIKE.
Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, O., April 26, 1875.
