Daniel S. Warner Revival in Shenandoah, Ohio (1876)

Revival in Shenandoah, Ohio.

BRO. FORNEY: Leaving the meeting in U. Sandusky to be carried on for a few days by the brethren, I came to the village of Shenandoah. Richland county, Ohio, where a church had been established a good many years ago, under the labors of Father William Adams and others. But through deaths and removals, and having had no very extensive revival for years, the church had dwindled down to a few faithful souls. Bro. G. F. Mitchell, though a member of the church four miles north, did a great service to the cause there. He is one of the most zealous and self-sacrificing workers for Christ I have ever known.

We began the meeting December 12, and the second week fifteen souls were converted to God. Bro. G. W. Wilson came near the close of the second week, and remained till near the close of the meeting. He preached many excellent sermons with great effect. He has our thanks and prayers to God for continued blessings.

We had a very interesting watch-meeting. Passed the last moments of the old year, and entered upon the new upon our knees, consecrating ourselves to God in solemn prayer. We continued the meeting nearly five weeks, and closed with a good interest. Two came out to the altar, were blessed and fellowshiped the last night.

We were favored with good order and good congregations all the way through, though part of the time the roads were extremely muddy. The meeting resulted in thirty-eight conversions; immersed 22, and fellowshiped 33. The converts were all married men and women but seven. Hence this constitutes a solid and firm addition to the Church of the living God. To him be all the glory.

I presented THE ADVOCATE at the close of the meeting for subscribers, and think I shall soon be able to send a number of new names. I never found a more kind and liberal people than at Shenandoah. Bro. Wilson received some remuneration for his labors, and near the close of the meeting a collection of over $15 was taken up for me, and the next day several unconverted men consulted together and determined that I must have more. Accordingly, that night they requested privilege to speak, when they called for and in a few moments raised $50.80. The Lord will reward these kind friends. I received in all during the meeting $78, and a donation. Thank God for this great liberality. How much it is appreciated by the poor preacher and wife, who so much need the same to begin keeping house. I am now holding a meeting at Vermillion, Ashland county, Ohio. Come, whoever can, and help us.
