West Ohio Missionary News.
BRO. FORNEY.--According to promise in my last article, I will send the readers of THE ADVOCATE, some more good news from this mission.
On Sabbath evening, March 16, we closed a meeting at the Windfall school-house, in Marion county, which was in progress over three weeks. The community is thickly settled, and the house was very much crowded every night; so much so, that it was difficult to procure room for penitents to kneel. Long before dark the people were to be seen gathering, in order to get seats. Many stood at the windows without and listened, even when the weather was quite severe. In order to accommodate the people, for a while we held a meeting in the adjoining district at the same time. We had the earnest labors of W. P. Burchard during most of the meeting. He is greatly esteemed by the people, who say he always gives the trumpet a certain sound, and never rounds off the corners. Bro. Small also made us a visit and rendered good service, for which he has our thanks. The meeting resulted in thirty-five conversions; twenty-five were immersed, twenty-two of whom I immersed on Tuesday, March 11th, in eleven minutes. The Church of God organization numbers thirty-five, and others will be fellowshiped ere long. Brother Elijah Riser and John Little were chosen Elders, and Brothers Harrison, Bonham and Leonidas Orr, deacons. This is an excellent band of brethren.
We met last night, and after proper deliberations, agreed to build a meeting-house. A lot was procured, building committee, secretary and treasurer were elected. So you see these brethren have a mind to work for God and his cause. There is a good opening for missionary work here. The people are becoming tired of human creeds; sprinkling for baptism, and close communion. The Church of God is a great thing in the estimation of the people. Many came six and eight miles to hear about it. I never saw more eager attention and willingness to receive the truth. Brethren, the world everywhere is waiting for the coming of Church of God ministers to emancipate them from sectarian bondage, by preaching the whole divine system of truth. May God help us to arise and go to work. O for more activity!
Next Sabbath I expect to immerse some at the other new church, four miles west, which now numbers thirty-two members. They have nearly eight hundred dollars subscribed for this house of worship. I am doing what I can to circulate THE ADVOCATE. I ask the prayers of God's people everywhere.
