West Ohio Missionary Work.
BRO. FORNEY.--My last left Bro. Burchard and myself at Bro. Small's, Marion county, Ohio, where I preached several evenings. Brother Small has gathered a noble band of brethren here in the name of the Lord, by whom he is very much esteemed. Bro. Burchard stopped a few days and then proceeded to Harden county and commenced a meeting on the 21st of January. A few days later I joined him, and found the Lord was already at work. We protracted the meeting twenty days. Results: twenty-four converted, seven immersed, and a church formed of twenty-one members. Ten or fifteen more belonging to different denominations design coming in soon by letter. This will form a perfect union of all Christians in the community. Thank God, the people are beginning to see and acknowledge the evils of divisions and the necessity of falling back on the Bible as the only means of restoring unity.
This is the first Church of God in Harden county. It is in the south-east corner of the county. A few brethren live in Union county. Since the meeting closed I met with the church, and after due deliberation it was decided to proceed to the erection of a house of worship. I have ordered $20 worth of hymn books for them. I also presented THE ADVOCATE publicly and privately, but have as yet received but one subscriber. Several others I think will send in their names ere long.
Brother Burchard is a great worker for God and truth, and will be a host in the ministry if he continues faithful. Brother Small made us a short visit and preached two excellent discourses, one on the subject of baptism. This church and community are a very liberal-hearted people. Two collections were taken up for us, which together amounted to about $26. May the Lord bless and reward the people for the kindness and prosper his Church in their midst. You may expect more good news from this mission. Pray for us.
