LESSON XIII.--JUNE 27.

SECOND QUARTERLY REVIEW.

READING: The Golden Texts for the Quarter.

GOLDEN TEXT.--If any man will do his will he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God.--JOHN 7:17.

SUGGESTIONS TO TEACHERS.

      1. The whole school can have a general exercise in concert by means of the Review Exercises given in many question-books and lesson-papers, or by using the titles and Golden Texts.

      2. It is an excellent thing to have a written review at some other hour than the regular school exercises, and let the scholars write out the answers to three questions on each lesson, either from printed slips or questions asked from the desk.

      3. In a class review it is well to question till each scholar has a clear, definite knowledge of the main outlines of the quarter's studies, embracing nearly two years of Christ's ministry. The leading dates, places, and persons should be made familiar. Then unity can be given to the lesson by means of one subject, around which the main features of the lessons arrange themselves.--Peloubet.

SUBJECT: IMMANUEL; GOD WITH US.

Let the Scholars point out the Lessons which reveal to us the character of Christ. 1. John, the Apostle's Testimony in his Preface. 2. John the Baptist's Testimony. 3. The Testimony of Christ's own Words. 4. The Testimony of his Miracles. 5. The Testimony of his Sinless life. It would be well to assign each of these subjects a week before hand to some bright scholar and have them treated in a three minute essay. To still others I would assign the Geography of the lessons, calling for a statement of the various places where the incidents occurred. One might also take up Christ in Galilee; and another, Christ in Judea.

THE SUPERINTENDENT, in the closing exercises, should bring out the grace of Christ as, 1. The Water of Life; 2. As the Bread of Life; 3. As the Truth that Frees; 4. As the Life Giver who delivers from death. Nor should he fail to impress that to enjoy these blessings we must, 1. Be born again; of water and the Spirit; 2. Come to Christ by faith and obedience; 3. Continue in his word. [156]
