OCTOBER 1
|
MORNING
The fruit of the Spirit is . . . temperance.
VERY man that striveth for the
mastery is temperate in all things.
Now they do it to obtain a corruptible
crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore
so run, not as uncertainly; so fight
I, not as one that beateth the air: but I
keep under my body, and bring it into
subjection: lest that by any means,
when I have preached to others, I myself
should be a castaway.
Be not drunk with wine, wherein is
excess; but be filled with the Spirit.
If any man will come after me, let him
deny himself, and take up his cross, and
follow me.
Let us not sleep, as do others; but let
us watch and be sober. For they that
sleep sleep in the night; and they that be
drunken are drunken in the night. But
let us, who are of the day, be sober.--Denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly, righteously, and
godly, in this present world; looking
for that blessed hope, and the glorious
appearing of the great God and our
Saviour Jesus Christ.

EVENING
Grow up into him in all things, which is
the head, even Christ.
IRST the blade, then the ear, after
that the full corn in the ear.--Till we
all come in the unity of the faith, and of
the knowledge of the Son of God, unto
a perfect man, unto the measure of the
stature of the fulness of Christ.
They measuring themselves by themselves,
and comparing themselves among
themselves, are not wise. But he that
glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For
not he that commendeth himself is
approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
The body is of Christ. Let no man
beguile you of your reward in a voluntary
humility and worshipping of angels,
intruding into those things which he
hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his
fleshly mind, and not holding the Head,
from which all the body by joints and
bands having nourishment ministered,
and knit together, increaseth with the
increase of God.
Grow in grace, and in the knowledge
of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
