J. W. McGarvey
Jesus and Jonah (1896)

ABOUT THE ELECTRONIC EDITION.

Sections I-III of Jesus and Jonah were first published in J. W. McGarvey's Biblical Criticism column in The Christian Standard in 1895: "Jesus and Jonah" (August 31, p. 835; September 7, p. 859; September 14, p. 885; September 21, p. 909); "Is the Story of Jonah Incredible" (September 28, p. 933; October 5, p. 957; 12 October, p. 981); "Driver on the Book of Jonah" (October 26, p. 1029); "The Date of the Book of Jonah" (November 2, p. 1053). These essays, with the previously unpublished Section IV, were issued in book form by Standard Publishing in 1896.

The electronic edition of J. W. McGarvey's Jesus and Jonah (Cincinnati, OH: Standard Publishing Co., 1896) has been produced from a copy of the book held by the T. W. Phillips Memorial Library, Bethany College. Thanks to Adams Memorial Library for arranging the interlibrary loan.

In the printed text, extended quotations are set in smaller type; in the electronic version, they are set off as block quotations. Pagination in the electronic version has been represented by placing the page number in brackets following the last complete word on the printed page. Inconsistencies in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and typography have been retained; however, corrections for misspellings and other accidental corruptions have been offered. Emendations are as follows:
