Born: Emmerson, Missouri, 1837.
Died: Niantic, Illinois, 1879.
Most of the life of Mr. Ballinger was passed in the State of his birth. In the five closing years of his life, which were devoted to the Niantic community, he gripped the people as few men can. In the places of his residence he served as elder, teacher, physician and minister. He was careful to remember the poor, but held continuously the good will of all classes. He was one of the truest friends of humanity and the noblest pattern of manhood.
