Died: Denver, Colorado.
Was brought in his infancy by his parents to Illinois. Served as captain of Company E, Ninety-fourth Illinois Infantry, through the Civil War. Was appointed Governor of the Territory of Colorado by President Grant, and after its admission as a State in 1876, he was twice elected as its chief executive. Mr. Routt was probably the first man among the Disciples to pay $10,000, in one sum, to the work of the church. This he did toward the erection of the First Christian Church in Denver, Colorado, of which he was a member.
