REV. THOMAS HARDY.
EV. THOMAS HARDY took an active part in opposition
to Methodist despotism. He had become an
itinerant among the Methodists in 1788, but located in
1790. After O'Kelly's withdrawal, he united with the
Church under the name of "Republican Methodists,"
and although in 1794 the Church decided to be known
by the name "Christian Church," he was so strongly
attached to the name Methodist that he labored on under
the name "Republican Methodist." Chaney chapel,
a Republican Methodist church, was visited by Rev.
Joseph Thomas as late as 1809, or later.
