THE URGENCY OF PRESENT EFFORT.

A beloved brother sends me the following clipping: "If the Christians of this generation do not send the gospel to the nonchristian people now living, they will never hear it." This strikes home. We are accustomed to think of "the heathen" in general as a fixed quantity, like the lands in which they live; and we entertain hopes that by and by the gospel will push its way on to them, forgetting in that hopeful view that the heathen of "by and by" are not the heathen of today. The heathens now living, no matter what advance the gospel light may make in future [146] time, are going to live and die in heathen darkness, the whole vast multitude of them, unless we go and preach, or help someone else to go and preach, the good tidings of Jesus to them now.
