VOL. IX. JANUARY, 1916. No. 1.

      A new Beginning is one of God's most precious and gracious gifts. We may have it any day we want it. "The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanseth us from all sin."

*     *     *

      Our greatest need is the need of seeing our need; but not without also seeing in God the abundant supply and provision for whatever our need may be.

*     *     *

      A man seals his doom whenever he says, "There is no use." God will forgive almost anything rather than that. The man who in the face of God's calls and entreaties and invitations says, "There is no use," makes Him a liar, hardens his own heart, and gives himself up to a life of sin and to damnation and despair. (Isa. 22:12-14). The Lord Jesus Christ says there is use. Them that come to Him, He will in no wise cast out; and He is able to save to the uttermost all that draw near unto God by Him.

*     *     *

      Knives that don't cut; guns that won't shoot; bells that don't ring; salt that has lost its savor--what good are they? And Christianity without love, what is the good of it?

*     *     *

      There is a lowly little gate, easy to enter and hard to enter; accessible to all, yet few are they that find it. It is this: "Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Who is so wretched and helpless--or rather who knows his wretchedness and weakness and poverty--that he will come to God through Christ? It is for such a one--and for no others, that God's salvation is given; and He will make them rich unto all the fulness of God. [4]
