PART TWO

Chronicles of The Local Churches

The local histories of the churches appear in the order of their origin--from earliest to latest--in three time-groups, which indicate somewhat the progress made. Province by province, they are given in geographical order, from the East to the West of Canada.

Owing to the variations in name--e. g. Church of Christ, Christians, Christian Church, Church of Christ (Disciples)--no attempt has been made to define the type of church, except by its location. They are all considered 'heirs of the Restoration doctrine' and might he united. The name frequently appears in the text, or at the column's head. An asterisk (*) has been used to indicate "Church of Christ" as in the plan of Chapter Eighteen, "Fellowship with the Churches of Christ."

As to the meaning of names, see end of Chapter Thirteen.

Three Time-Periods

I     Pioneer Churches, 1830 to 1869
II     Middle Period, 1870 to. 1899. (All the Churches in Toronto
appear at the end of this period.)
III     Twentieth century Churches, 1900 onwards.
