Born on a farm in Henderson County, Illinois, August 23, 1866. When about two years of age his parents moved, with the family, to Missouri. Here the subject of this sketch lived till four years ago last September, when he came to Indianapolis to become pastor of the Downey Avenue Church.

He was brought up on a farm, and educated in the public schools and in Christian University, Canton, Missouri. After leaving college he worked in a mission church in Kansas City one year; was pastor of the church at Palmyra, Missouri, three years; of the church at Columbia, Missouri, twelve years, and is in his fifth year as pastor of the Downey Avenue Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.
