Christian Love

[Page 13]
Roy and Gracie Jennings, who are members of the congregation at Lamine, Missouri, have just adopted a little orphan girl who traveled 11,000 miles by train and plane to meet her new parents. Patsy Lee is a little girl who is half American and half Korean. She will soon be two years old. Bro. and Sister Jennings have 3 other adopted children, Helen (15); Harold (13) and Billy Joe (11). They are Indian-French. All of these were adopted through the Harry Holt Adoption Program of which many of you have read. Mr. and Mrs. Holt, who live in Creswell, Oregon, adopted eight little children in 1955. These were all born to Korean mothers and United States soldiers. This act of kindness sparked a great interest in our country, and 312 more abandoned children have been brought over and placed in private homes.

It is expected that Mr. Holt will bring 10,000 more helpless waifs to America, and 6000 have already been spoken for. The adoption by proxy costs $50, plus the plane fare for the baby to the west coast, which is $259, and foster parents receive their children at the Los Angeles airport. Those whose hearts are moved to help overcome the suffering of tiny tots and break down barriers of world tension can write the Harry Holt Adoption Program, Rfd 1, Creswell, Oregon, for information.

Gracie Jennings writes: "We love Patsy Lee very much and God has really blessed us through her and our other three adopted children. We thank God for our children and the happiness they have brought to us. These Korean children are starving and the full blooded Koreans mob them because their skins are fair. We who are Christians need to open our hearts for these and all needy persons. Patsy Lee is a happy child. She sings and laughs at anything and is so loving. These children need to be watched for awhile as they are not used to our foods and the poor little things try to eat everything until they overload their tummies.

I thank God for people like Roy and Gracie Jennings. They restore my faith in true Christianity in a world of suspicion and distrust. Those who would like to write them may address Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jennings, 1105 Main Street, Boonville, Missouri. It thrills my heart that when the congregation conducts midweek Bible study in their home each week that these little children can share in it, as well as in the love of Christian parents.
