Deep Waters

[Page 12]
"They that go down to the sea in ships; that do business in great waters, these see the works of the Lord and his wonders in the deep" (Psalm 107:23).

This is a picture of life's troubled sea. Man would prefer shallow water when the breakers come. If man can see his way out he does not call on God. God wants to show his hand, and wants us to call him. Take Joseph as an example. He was despised by his brethren. They hated him, stole his coat and sold him into Egypt, where he was sold again, and finally lodged in prison. Thirteen years Joseph was doing business in deep waters -- the sea of experience. His mother was dead, his father mourned and Joseph suffered. He was sold to strangers, carried by strangers, imprisoned with strangers, married a stranger, and died in a strange land. He was 30 years old when he saw the working of the Lord. His good behavior led him to the king's palace. Through the working of God the king was kindly disposed. He took his own ring and placed it on Joseph's hand, he was clothed in fine linen and made to ride in the second chariot. Thus, the meek and modest, the pure and patient, Joseph, after passing through the deep waters of deceit, dishonor and disgrace, was selected Food Administrator for a great empire. "When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him." --A. R. Moore.
