On November 8, an all day study was conducted at Hartford, Illinois, on
the topic, "The Christian and His Relation to the Social Structure in Which he Moves." The next
such investigation will be conducted on Saturday, January 17, on the subject, "Rules for
Interpreting the Sacred Scripture." This will be an important meeting, and all are urged to attend.
Please announce it in your congregation. The study will begin at 9:30 a. m. and close at 3:30 p.
m., with lunch served at noon. This next meeting will be very valuable. Come!
Wilford Landes reports that Harold Shasteen, ordained Wendell Sparks
as elder; Roy Green and Ralph Bratcher as deacons, for the 63rd and Blue Ridge congregation,
Kansas City, November 10. These are fine men and we rejoice that the congregation has called
them to this service. One of the greatest needs of this age is qualified leadership in the
churches, and proper respect and regard for such leadership by the members. We predict a good
future for the Blue Ridge church.
Evelyn Crabtree writes from Indianapolis, Indiana, that she thinks the
brethren are trying to take the easy way out in life, thus putting into practice the saying of
Tolstoy, "It is easier to write ten volumes of philosophy, than to put one principle into practice."
That is true, and prompts me to pass on this little epigram of Alfred Adler, "It is easier to fight
for one's principles than to live up to them." Emerson said, "God offers to every mind its choice
between truth and repose. Take which you please -- you can never have both." It will do us good
to think about these things!
