Special Occasion
About 200 brethren and friends assembled in the banquet room of the
Green Parrot Inn, Saint Louis County, on the evening of March 17, for a testimonial dinner in
honor of the fortieth year of preaching the gospel by W. Carl Ketcherside. Those present came
from several states. James E. Mabery presided, Warren Cochran directed the group singing,
Borden Higginbotham and Bernell Weems directed prayers. In a sound-slide presentation
pictures of the entire career of the editor were thrown on the screen with accompanying
narration by Curtis Burton. Bob Duncan gave a talk "Tribute from a Younger Generation" and a
quartet consisting of Jerry and Emily Ketcherside, Curtis and Sharon Sue Burton, sang two
numbers. One of the outstanding features was a sound tape presentation prepared by Albert
Winstanley and other members of the congregation at Tunbridge Wells, England.
Editor's Note: Inasmuch as it would be impossible to thank all of
those who had part in planning and carrying out this
surprise I can simply say that I am deeply humbled by this manifestation of Christian grace and
love upon the part of all.
