California Meetings
An average attendance of more than 400 per session was registered for
the evening meetings of the fellowship rally at Lakewood, California, October 16-20. William
Jessup presided at all of the services assisted by brethren from all segments of the disciple
brotherhood in song directing, scripture reading and prayer. A special prayer session held in the
patio adjoining the meetinghouse preceded each night meeting. The afternoon question periods,
each of two hours duration, produced some penetrating and worthwhile queries. Two chapel
addresses were delivered at Pacific Bible Seminary in Long Beach and many conferences were
held with interested groups of elders and preachers. There was not a single untoward incident
and many expressed themselves as having had a "mountain top experience" in their Christian
careers.
More than 260 attended the Saturday evening meeting at Palomares Club
House, Pomona, Oct. 21, with 320 assembling for the Sunday afternoon address the following
day. The question periods which succeeded each address were very fruitful and provocative of
thought. The morning and night services on Sunday at Tenth and Garey Streets, Pomona, were
well attended. The California visit ended with an address at Crenshaw Avenue Christian Church,
Los Angeles, on Monday morning, October 23, affording an opportunity to meet many who are
intensely concerned about unity of the saints.
