It was our privilege to meet a number of
brethren from various congregations representing many segments of
the restoration movement heritage in the meetings conducted at
Riverside Church of Christ, Wichita, Kansas, where Robert Meyers
labors.... At Gardena, California, our peak attendance at the
High School Session was 152; at the College-Career Session 60;
and at the Adult Session 330. The congregation gave enthusiastic
support, having been well-prepared by Gene Rogers and Loran
Biggs.... Through the kindness of our brother in the Lord, Harry
Bucalstein, we were privileged to meet the personnel of the
American Board of Missions to the Jews, in the Hollywood,
California, branch. Brother Bucalstein is a member of the
staff.... Brother Scott Bartchy was invited to share with Charles
Malik of Lebanon; William S. Coffin, Jr., of Yale; William
Stringfellow of New York; and Frank Gaebelein of Christianity
Today, at the Eighth National Conference on Religion in
Independent Education. Scott, who is Chaplain at Dana Hall School
and a doctoral candidate at Harvard, read a paper on "Parental
Equivocation and Student Moral Standards."... Our brother, J. D.
Phillips, who edits The Truth, at Austin, Texas, reports
that his wife, Edith, seems stronger after a serious heart
ailment. We sincerely join in the prayers being offered by many
for her complete recovery. She has been a great factor in getting
out the magazine which Brother Phillips edits.... Dr. Dale
Erickson and family plan to go to the Chidarnoyo Mission, in
Rhodesia, about the first of next year, where Dale will take full
charge of the medical program in the area.... There were 1843
registered for the first preaching convention to be held on the
Ozark Bible College Campus, at Joplin, Missouri, held Febraury
14-16.... Approximately 2500 persons attended the final session
of the Pepperdine College Spring Bible Lectureship, held in the
Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, California. Bill Banowsky spoke
on Christians as the light of the world and pleaded for personal
involvement in meeting the needs of men in our day.... George
Gurganus of the Harding College Graduate School, and myself,
shared a program at the Southern Christian Convention, held at
Kingsport, Tennessee. It was my privilege to deliver the final
address on the night of March 30. On the morning of that date I
spoke at the Chapel Service of Emmanuel School of Religion, and
later addressed the members of three classes on the Milligan
College Campus.... A Centennial Unity Forum will be held on the
Milligan College Campus, June 23-26, which will bring
together men from many segments of the restoration movement. The
theme will be "Renewal Through Recovery" and it will be a genuine
study of depth of some of the real problems related to fellowship
and unity.... Our brother, Don McCord, who is editor of Old
Paths Advocate, admits in his issue of March 1, that it is no
secret that some of the brethren in the party represented by the
paper, have been influenced by what MISSION MESSENGER teaches.
Don says, "I pray for them, love them, and long for their
rescue." We ought to love and pray for all of our brethren, and
long for their wellbeing in Christ.... Three brethren, whose
names were well-known within the Church of Christ wing of the
restoration movement, have been called to their long home. They
are Clinton Davidson, Bernardsville, New Jersey; G. A. Dunn,
Dallas, Texas; and Tice Elkins, Alamogordo, New Mexico. We are
distressed to see the pioneers enter the dark valley of the
shadows, having heard of them since we were little children....
We have a limited number of copies of "The Home Life and
Reminiscences of Alexander Campbell" written by his wife, Selina
Campbell. This 504 page book contains the famous "Sermon on the
Law" and also sets forth the position of the author on the
subject of instrumental music in the public praise service. We
will mail you one for $5.95.... We are pleased to report that our
brother, Merle Clark, Riverside, California, has forwarded a
wide-carriage typewriter to Brother Diosdado P. Menor, in the
Philippines, to be used in the preparation of printed material
for distribution in the islands.... Our brother in the Lord,
James N. Cummins, with his wife and five children, will move to
Geneva, New York, about July 1, where he will join the staff of
Cornell University. Jim would like to hear from any brethren in
the area who are, or have been, connected with the restoration
movement in any manner. You can address him at 306 Pullman Hall,
Carbondale, Illinois 62901.... Thomas W. Fife, Goiania, Brazil,
writes to tell us that a bus in which he was riding at 3 a.m.,
overturned in a very muddy creek, during a driving
rainstorm. All of the passengers escaped unhurt but both
themselves and their luggage were soaked.... We would like to
mention that we have left only four full sets of the seven bound
volumes of MISSION MESSENGER. These may be secured at $20.00 per
set on a first come--first serve basis. Two of the volumes are in
very short supply.... Darrell Bolin reports immersing two at Lock
Haven, Pennsylvania, and tells us that the brethren at
Bridgeport, Connecticut, immersed three as a result of home Bible
studies.... Bill Hames, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Buff Scott,
Jr., of Nevada, Missouri, spoke recently on a forum on fellowship
arranged by the congregation meeting on North Fulton Street,
Butler, Missouri, where Harry Pickup, Jr., was conducting a
series of meetings.... Dick Hardman, writes from Tonga, on the
Friendly Islands, that he and family are accustoming themselves
to native ways in the village where they are living and
witnessing for Christ.... Ernest D. Faber, writes from Obihiro,
Japan, that his family will be returning to the states in July
for their second furlough. They have been in Japan for six years
since they returned previously.... If you'd like to have a copy
of "A Symposium on the Holy Spirit" by pioneer preachers (A. B.
Jones, G. W. Longan, Thomas Munnell, J. Z. Taylor, Alexander
Campbell, and James Challen) we'll send you a copy of this 264
page book for $3.95.... I will be one of the speakers at the
Second Annual Brush Arbor Meeting, Fairfield, North Carolina,
Saturday, June 24. It is expected that several thousand persons
will attend this endeavor to reproduce the atmosphere of the Cane
Ridge Meeting. Other speakers will be Harvey C. Bream, Jr.;
Philip H. Ling; and Raldo W. Cook.... It will be a privilege to
teach in the camp at Macrorie, Saskatchewan, again this year. The
brethren at Outlook (Saskatchewan) have been able to cut across
party lines and make this a real opportunity for sharing with all
of the saints in the area.... On August 15-17 I will be with the
brethren at the Cumberland Christian Camp Meeting, near Corbin,
Kentucky. This annual event, held in the pine woods of the great
outdoors, is an event attended by many families of the saints,
who come and camp out for the whole time. Luther D. Burrus will
be the other speaker.... The depth study on the Holy Spirit,
which I was privileged to conduct at Parkview Church of Christ,
Fort Wayne, Indiana, drew an audience of almost 200 persons each
night. William L. Lower and Vic Lankford work with the
congregation.... Jan H. Fitzwater did a story on our meeting at
Gardena, California, in the Alhambra Free Press, as guest
columnist of a regular feature called "Guise 'N Dolls."
