     A beloved brother, Bob Haddow, Temple City, California, who has been confined to a wheelchair for years, suffered a slight stroke which affected his sight and speech. He is showing some improvement. Bob has been a real source of strength to me.... J. Ed Uland, a friend and brother, finished third in the finals of Toastmasters International annual speech contest in Cleveland, Ohio. Ed is executive director of the Greater Lorain (Ohio) Chamber of Commerce.... Bob Duncan, 27 Broadway Place, Normal, Illinois 61761, has 8 volumes of The Pulpit Commentary (New Testament) which he will sell you at a real savings. The books are like new.... Rawlin Jernigan, Wiesbaden, Germany, was thoughtful enough to send me a full set of new issue German stamps. Thanks!... There's a new publication starting, to be called New Wine. Kyle says this will be "a provocative 'think' paper, theologically oriented beyond mediocrity but just short of being esoteric." Materials will be Bible based, Christ crowned, and people pointed. Why not write Kyle for a sample? He will send you one.... We want to commend Communion Quester, published in Brazil by evangelists who have gone there to take the Message. The editor is Glover Shipp, and associate editors are Howard Norton and Harry Scales. This powerful journal is published at Caixa Postal 2610, Belo Horizonte, M. G., Brazil, South America. If you have not seen it we urge you to secure a sample copy.... An attack upon our position by our brother, Dale Smelser, appears in the September 18 issue of the Gospel Guardian, P.O. Box 470, Lufkin, Texas 75901. The title of the article is "Ketchersidian Fallacies." We think it is very important that all of our readers secure a copy and know what is being said by dissenting brethren. Do not be one-sided in your reading but study both sides of issues.... If you have teen-agers (13 to 16 years old) and you will send us two dollars, we will mail you a package of eight paperback books for the kids. This is not a religious assortment but just good reading on their level.... Standard Publishing announces a new weekly called Seek, which will start January 1, and will tie in the Standard Lesson Service for adults. The editor will be my trusted friend, John Wade, and that is a good recommendation for the forthcoming publication.... Hoy Ledbetter, David Elkins, Dean Thoroman, Frank Rester and John Smith, all combined to put out a thrilling issue of the new magazine Integrity in August. Have you written for your sample copy yet? It was our privilege to meet a number of the brethren on the Committee of One Hundred who were in Saint Louis to plan for the North American Christian Convention to be held here next July.... Carl E. Hines is studying Spanish at Universidad de los Andes, but will return to Villavo, Colombia, to work with the saints in December.... Calvin Ross has been called from Princeton, New Jersey, to lead a campus ministry for students at Pitt and Carnegie-Mellon, in the Pittsburgh area. Calvin received the B.D. and M.Th. degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary.... Reuel Lemmons and James Deforest Murch each invited fifteen men to meet at Hilton Inn, Saint Louis, September 18-20, for discussions of the problems relating to disunity in the ranks of the restoration heirs. Reports from the meetings indicate a fraternal spirit. It is expected that the brethren who were present will try to

arrange quarterly meetings for discussion. This is good!... If you have children in your family between the ages of 6 and 12 years and you will send us $2.00 we will send them an assortment of books worth many times that price. Tell us their ages when you write.... We are pleased to announce a whole new series of messages to be given in this paper during the year 1970, and to be titled "The Living Pattern." We intend to unmask Church of Christism and show that we have developed unwritten creeds without a word of scriptural warrant. It will be our thesis that we have been divided by men with a factional spirit who have searched the Word to justify their partisan presuppositions. We promise you that the paper will be different than anything else you have read in the disciple brotherhood.... Our next issue will be our last for this year. It will contain my articles on Things to Come; The Secret Plan; The Slave Mentality; and The Priority Value. Boyce Mouton will have one on "Abstain From all Appearance of Evil," and James M. Swiney another on "Consecrated Diversity." After that issue appears the papers for the entire year will be bound into a 192-page book, cloth-bound, and bearing the title Christian Commandoes. If you order yours before March 1, it will be sent to you and billed for $2.49.... Bob Shaw, who serves First Christian Church, 230 N. E. Fourth Street, Miami, Florida, has produced a paper titled, "The Dignity of the Local Fellowship of Jesus Christ and Christians." He is chairman of the Education Committee of "The Fellowship for a Free and Responsible Church," composed of men who oppose the restructure program adopted by the Disciples of Christ.... Lee Keesling, who works on the rehabilitation program for alcoholics and drug addicts in the Washington (D.C.) area, was invited to speak at the Virginia Diocese Convention of the Episcopal Church. He was with the congregation of saints at West Islip, New York, September 29.... Training Center for Service, which is located in the heart of the black ghetto in Saint Louis, had a most interesting and encouraging report of activities for August. If your heart is moved to help where the action is you can send to this work and deduct it from your tax statement.... In the September issue of Mission the brethren announce a program of doubling the circulation of this very timely and provocative magazine. Roy Bowen Ward is Editor-in-Chief, and is a great man for the post. Ray F. Chester is Managing Editor and Thomas H. Olbricht is Business Manager. Both of these are eminently qualified. If you have quit reading all brotherhood papers because of their irrelevance, you probably had not heard of Mission.... In conformity with our personal non-partisan, non-factional approach to the brotherhood of the blood-washed throng, we will continue to keep you informed of what is happening across all of our lines and without judging motives. We will love you if you do not agree with us.... We have a real bargain for you. A copy of the book "Thomas Campbell--Man of the Book" for only $2.00. It is 300 pages and cloth-bound.... Brethren have planted a congregation of saints on the campus of Michigan State University, meeting in Alumni Memorial Chapel.... I regret to report that the wife of my brother, Paul Ketcherside, Nowata, Oklahoma, is back in the hospital as the result of a badly broken ankle. She will probably always have to use a crutch. Floreine has spent many weary months in the hospital during the last several years....
