A Tragic Need

[Page 174]
This space, ordinarily used to chat with you about books has been requested this month by Brother Clifton Ephland, Nevada, Missouri, for a statement related to my brother in the flesh, Paul Ketcherside, Nowata, Missouri, and his wife, Floreine, who has suffered untold agony for many months.

"I make no apology for mentioning again the tragic circumstances in the life of Floreine Ketcherside, who is again hospitalized for surgery and a prolonged confinement. Expenses are astronomical, averaging over $70.00 per day, and the surgery and after treatment may not relieve the pain. It involves opening an infected ankle and removing as much of the bone as possible, and if this does not stay the infection, the consequent amputation of as much of the limb as required. Floreine is a diabetic and has long been unable to secure insurance of any kind.

The resources of Paul and Floreine were long ago exhausted by years of expensive treatment and hospital bills, yet Paul refuses to quit, working many hours daily in managing an appliance store, and helping congregations wherever he can assist at night and on weekends. He has taken time off to assist in funerals and to share directly in the griefs of others. I urge those of you who live comfortable lives in nice homes, to prayerfully send once and again to assist in this distress of those who are worthy, and to back your prayers with your gifts. Please respond to this plea generously and continue to respond. Yours in the faith that serves, Clifton Ephiand."

EDITOR'S NOTE

My heart reaches out to Floreine as she lies in Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville. She has suffered long and patiently, and each time she has been hospitalized seemed like it brought greater news of crisis. Nell and I have sent to help. The address is Paul Ketcherside, Nowata, Oklahoma 74048.
