Tne experience at Camp Wi-Ne-Ma in Oregon,
where I served as Bible lecturer during the Week of Missions, was
a glorious experience. More than 1000 registered for the
occasion. I presented four analytical talks on the first chapter
of 1 Thessalonians, and conducted an open forum question session
of two hours duration. One of the highlights came each afternoon
when I met with high school and college young people, in a
natural sand bowl on the beach, and we held rap sessions to find
out what life is all about.... Those who wish to secure copies of
my speeches can obtain them on high quality casettes. The price
for a cassette with two messages will be $3.99; for all four
messages $5.99, and for the four messages plus the question
period $7.69. Some of the questions really "zeroed in" on our
problems. Write for casettes to Vernon Woods, 3950 Coburg Road,
Space 87, Eugene, Oregon 97401. If you prefer regular tapes you
may secure them from Vernon. A part of what you pay for these is
returned to help on the cost of mailing out this paper.... Paul
Stebelton received the 227th free copy of my book Simple
Trusting Faith, which is sent free to all college and
university students who send a personal request for it. Paul is a
student at Cincinnati Bible Seminary. If you are enrolled in a
college anywhere you are invited to write for this book. The
request must come from you, as the books will not be mailed upon
proxy requests, from parents or friends. Simply give us your name
and complete mailing address and mention the college where you
attend. There is no other obligation.... At the close of this
year, all of the material appearing in MISSION MESSENGER during
1971 will be issued in an attractive 192-page, clothbound volume
under the title "One Great Chapter." You can make your order now
for any number of copies for delivery about February 1, at the
price of $2.95 each, payable upon delivery of the books. Write us
at 139 Signal Hill Drive, Saint Louis, Missouri 63121.... L. V.
Houtz, Route 5, Winchester, Kentucky 40391, has placed in
attractive booklet form his speech delivered at the Hartford
Forum last year, entitled, "Is The Modern Charismatic Movement a
Divine Means for Promoting the Unity for Which Christ Prayed?"
Brother Houtz is a former president of Southeastern Christian
College, and has a very sincere conviction that the answer to the
question he treats is in the affirmative. We urge you to send for
this sixteen-page booklet, and we are sure that he will welcome
any contribution toward its cost of production.... We hope that
you read "Subways Are For Sowing" in the June-July issue of
American Bible Society Record. If you did not, be sure and
get a copy of it and see what is being accomplished by our
brother, Stanley L. Morris, of Brooklyn, New York. It is
terrific!... While talking about journals, I should like to
congratulate my good brother, Edwin Hayden, for the outstanding
job of reporting the North American Christian Convention in
Christian Standard, issue of August 29. The 1972
Convention Committee runs the alphabet from A to Z, starting with
Reuben L. Anderson and going to Winston Zastrow. There are a
hundred of these brethren and they make a great team.... One of
the big problems faced by campus workers is that of securing
printed material tuned in to the college mind. We would like to
suggest that every student and every campus minister write for a
sample copy of Facts for Faith, edited by Gordon Wilson,
6316 Pernod Avenue, Saint Louis, Missouri 63139. Here is a little
monthly
which deals with apologetics in a way that gets through. If
Gordon decides to furnish these in bulk at special rates, you
need to put them in the hands of the students where you are. Get
with it!... In the August issue of Mission, Dudley Lynch
has an interview with Pat Boone under the title "Religion in a
New Key." You need to read it, and find out what's going on.
You'll have no trouble understanding what Pat is saying, for he
speaks plain English.... In the May issue of Restoration
Review, Leroy Garret does a great job in the article
"Restoration and Renaissance." The paper is published at 1201
Windsor Drive, Denton, Texas 76201.... My good brother, Rex
Jones, has been added to the faculty of Manhattan Christian
College, where the largest freshman class has enrolled in the
forty-four-year-old history of the school.... On August 28, the
European Congress on Evangelism began in Amsterdam with more than
1000 delegates present. Billy Graham was the only non-European to
speak. One of my favorite writers, John R. W. Stott, a chaplain
to Queen Elizabeth, was on the program.... The family of James
Hominuke, living in Saskatchewan, deserves credit for bringing
out the first truly Protestant edition of the New Testament and
Psalms in Ukrainian.... We are extremely anxious for all of our
readers to peruse Teeth on Edge, by our brother, Robert
Fife. This is a great study of slavery in the churches of the
restoration movement, and the effects of it, which are still
seen. We encourage you to send for your copy at once. It is only
$1.95.... If you live in California, please plan to attend the
Fellowship Rally in San Jose, October 20-22. Each morning I will
deliver a chapel lecture, and each afternoon conduct an open
forum question and answer period at San Jose Bible College, 12th
and Virginia Streets. All evening sessions will be at Green
Valley Church of Christ, 390 Ridge Vista Avenue, and these will
begin at 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday evening my theme is "The Death of
a Dream"; Thursday night, "The Recovery of Reason"; Friday night,
"A Faith for the Future." We invite brethren from every segment
of the restoration movement, whether friend or foe. Come on, and
be loved!... Have you seen that tremendous new quarterly called
Hope, which truly portrays inner city work, in word and
picture? If not, write today for a copy. Address your request to
Camp Shiloh, Inc., Box 627, Mendham, N.J. 07945, and tell them
you want to see "Hope." Don't hope for it, write for it!...
Carlton Melling, editor of Scripture Standard, published
by the brethren in Great Britain, is doing a real job in a series
of articles on baptism. Our brother, James Gardiner, handles the
"Question Box" feature of this interesting periodical.... Did you
know that we will send you three important clothbound books about
the restoration movement for only $6.49? That's right! You can
get The Political Ethics of Alexander Campbell, Apostle
of Freedom, and Thomas Campbell: Man of the Book, all
three of them for this fantastically low price which includes
postage.... Is there a congregation of saints anywhere which is
looking for a brother to work with them as a free man in Christ
Jesus? We know of a personable brother who is sick of making
tests of fellowship out of all the little nitty-gritty which
absorbs the time and attention of the factional-minded. If you
want to rise above your own littleness of the past and want
someone to help you who desires to be a slave only to Jesus,
write me, and I will place you in contact.... Congratulations to
Edward Fudge on a scholarly article appearing in the Summer
Edition of the Journal of the Evangelical Theological
Society. The title is "Paul's Apostolic Self-Consciousness at
Athens." Edward is author of a book in a more popular vein which
you ought to read, called "Christianity Without Ulcers." You can
secure it by sending $3.50 to C. E. I. Publishing Company, Box
858, Athens, Alabama 35611.... If you live in Louisiana I hope to
see you at the State Christian Convention at which I will be
speaking, in
Shreveport. Feel free to write to Don Fream, 3401 Greenwood Road,
Shreveport, Louisiana 71109, for information and a program. You
can call him at 635-5607. Brethren from various segments of the
restoration movement will be in attendance. . . . November 1-5, I
will be with the Genessee Church of Christ, 4381 East Stanley
Road. You can secure information by addressing Frank Rester, P.O.
Box 1205, Flint, Michigan 48501. The telephone number is (313)
653-5951. Frank will be glad to hear from you whether you plan to
come or not. The congregation at Genessee does not use the
instrument but they do not make it a test of fellowship. All of
you will be as welcome as the flowers in May.... One of the
important meetings in Missouri will be held at Eldon, at "the
Church on 9th Street," November 16, 17. This will be an intensive
seminar on "The Holy Spirit" and speakers will be Seth Wilson,
Russell Boatman, Gareth Reece, and myself. You'll not want to
miss this. Write to Woody Wilkinson, Eldon, Missouri for a
program.... The Hartford (Illinois) Forum will be held on
December 28, 29, with a truly great series of questions for
discussion. These are titled: What I Believe About the
Inspiration of the Scriptures; What I Believe About the Current
Charismatic Movement; What I Believe About the Thousand Years of
Revelation 20; What I Believe About Situational Ethics; and What
I Believe About the Organized Institutional Church. Brethren
drawn from several segments of the restoration movement will be
on the program, and will express their honest sentiments without
fear of reprisal. For a program and other information write to
Berdell McCann, 118 East Second Street, Hartford, Illinois 62048,

March 6-10 at LaCrosse, Wisconsin; March 20-24 at Grand Rapids,
Michigan; April 10-14 at Newport, Oregon; April 24-28 at Hoxie,
Kansas. This does not include the shorter appointments, and we
will be telling you more about these at a later date.... We think
you will like to know that the August issue broke all records for
circulation of MISSION MESSENGER. Much of this is due to the
faithfulness of readers who send in the subscriptions for their
friends. Thank you, and God bless you! We love you all!... In
reporting the Lectureship held in Spain, Juan A. Monroy, says
that the Churches of Christ are now the fastest growing movement
outside of the Catholic Church. There are fifteen congregations
meeting in Spain at the present.... If you want a list of
power-packed paperbacks, write for our Book List 71-C. If you'd
like a selection of reference and clothbound books, ask for 71-D.
Why not request them both? There is no charge.... The August
issue of The Christian Appeal was devoted entirely to the
question, "Why The New Bible Translations?" It was excellent. The
address is 4220 West 11th Avenue, Amarillo, Texas 79106.... The
August Century of Recovery has a new format.
Congratulations to the editor, Joseph O'Neal, Box 11, Englehard,

Toronto Christian Mission, where he will prepare messages to be
translated into Russian for broadcasting to the Soviet Union, and
Autumn will assist in art work.... Pat Harrell is Bible Professor
for the Student Christian Fellowship at the University of Texas
in Austin. He will be a good one. Pat succeeds Gene Patterson,
who is now Coordinator of Chaplains with the Texas Youth
Council.... Please do not let your subscription lapse. Why not
renew now?
