Soon after you read this, The Parable of Telstar, and Other Talks by W. Carl Ketcherside, will be off the press. It will contain approximately 225 pages, featuring an introduction and sixteen full-length talks which were delivered to various gatherings in 1971. The purpose of the book is to show the relevance of the revealed faith to the computer age.
The first talk gives its title to the book. "The Parable of Telstar," is assumed to be the kind of talk Jesus would make today to a Rotary Club luncheon, or to a high school assembly, if the Supreme Court allowed him to speak. It is a parable up in the clouds and down to earth. The second talk is a reprint by request of "My Only Creed," which was made at the Unity Forum, conducted at Atlanta Christian College, last summer.
The next four talks were given at Camp Wi-Ne-Ma and constituted the Bible lectures. They represent an exposition of chapter one of 1 Thessalonians, and are entitled: "Grace and Peace"; "Three Things to Remember"; "The Dynamite of God"; and "Examples and Models."
The next four talks were prepared for a convocation of college and high school young people, some of the latter identified with the "Jesus Folk." The titles are: "The Real Revolutionary"; "Moving Into the Twentieth Century"; "The Fellowship of the Unashamed"; and "Walled in or Walled Out."
Other subjects are "Space Age Religion"; "The Vitality of Christianity"; "The Scarlet Line"; "Is There Power in the Blood?" and "The Greatest Counterfeiter." It is planned that the subject-matter will remove the generation gap and the time lapse. The book will be the kind that you will want to use for gifts to all of your friends in the congregation. It is hoped that some of the ideas developed will be used to spark talks by other brethren. The price of this interesting book will be $2.95, and you can send your order in now.
While we are talking about books, we urge you to send at once for your copy of the bound volumes for 1971. The title of the book is One Great Chapter and it contains all of the material which I wrote last year on the analysis of Romans 8, while dealing with the relationship of the life of the Spirit and the life of the flesh. It is quite evident that the available supply of this volume will not last through this year, and it will not be brought back into print, once it is gone. The price is only $2.95 per copy.
Among the other books you would find most interesting is No Greater Heritage. This is the thrilling drama of the birth of the English Bible. I have read it twice. It is $1.95 per copy. We also hope that you will read the 325-page volume Thoughts On Unity, by representative men from the Disciples of Christ, Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. The book contains a picture and brief story of each contributor. The price is $5.95.
We'd like to recommend An Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words by W. E. Vine ($13.95); The New Smith's Bible Dictionary ($5.95); and Cruden's Complete Concordance ($4.95). These are books you can really use!
