Preacher Workshop

[Page 189]

It is expected that a thousand preachers will gather at Abilene Christian College, January 8-10, for the annual workshop dealing with matters of controversy among the brethren. J. D. Thomas has announced a change in the format from last year's program in order to allow more time for discussion. The topic of "Fellowship" is considered to be of sufficient interest and importance that more time will be given to it. There will be two reactors to my paper and a much longer time for questions from the floor. Here is a list of the topics, authors of main papers, and reactors.

The Sunday School Arrangement. Paper, G. B. Shelburne, Jr., Amarillo, Texas; Reaction, Norman Gipson, Denver, Colorado.

The Nature of Church Cooperation. Paper, Cecil Willis, Marion, Indiana; Reaction, Reuel Lemmons, Austin, Texas.

Making Our Preaching Relevant. Paper, Don Finto, Nashville, Tennessee; Reac-

tion, Delmar Owens, Norman, Oklahoma.

Christian Pacifism. Paper, Allen Isbell, Houston, Texas; Reaction, Max Leach, Abilene, Texas.

Cessation of the Miraculous Gifts. Paper, Frank Pack, Los Angeles, California; Reaction, Leroy Garrett, Denton, Texas.

Social Drinking. Paper, Batsell Barrett Baxter, Nashville, Tennessee; Reaction, Jerry Holloman, San Antonio, Texas.

Influence of the Spirit on the Christian. Paper, Roy Lanier, Sr., Denver, Colorado; Reaction, Alan Highers, Memphis, Tennessee.

Abortion. Paper, John Scott, Memphis, Tennessee; Reaction, Dr. Roy Willingham, Dallas, Texas.

Fellowship. Paper, W. Carl Ketcherside, St. Louis, Missouri; Reaction, Harold Harelip, Memphis, Tennessee, and Richard Rogers, Lubbock, Texas.

No tape recording will be permitted, and no publication of any of the materials is to be done "as delivered at the Workshop." Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., Monday, January 8. Three "packages" for payment are offered:

The complete on-campus package is $21.50 and includes Registration, Dormitory Room and all Meals. (You should bring your own bed linens, towels, and pillows. For those who fly in, a limited supply of these can be rented from the Dorm Supervisor).

The second "package" includes Registration plus two-nights lodging in the Dorm for $14.00, but does not include any meals. Individual meals can be had at the Cafeteria for $1.25, and the final banquet at $2.50.

The third option is for those who will be staying and eating off-campus and is $8.00 for Registration only.

Bonafide ministerial students of a preaching school or Christian college will receive a $5.00 discount on the registration fee under each of the above plans. However, their names must be certified in advance by the school.

The announced purpose served by the Workshop is to cultivate a spirit of love and brotherliness among various individuals and groups in the brotherhood. The opportunity to have real communication between those of differing viewpoints is an essential before agreement is possible. The Workshop is not to minimize honest differences, but to explore them. Abilene Christian College does not officially endorse the views of any speaker or respondent.
