New Testament Words is a 300-page clothbound book, by William Barclay, combining "A New Testament Wordbook" and "More New Testament Words." This new volume is the size of the Daily Study Bible Series, and has an index keyed to the 17 volume expository work. If you truly want to study backgrounds I know you will receive this tremendous book with much satisfaction. More than seventy key words are enlarged upon. The cost is $3.95 per copy.
Surprised by Joy is a book I have wanted to mention for years but have been hesitant to do so. It is the story of the conversion of C. S. Lewis as written by himself. I have been reluctant to tell you about it because it is written about the British school system and its impact, and I thought you might not be interested. Now that I have read the book through completely for the second time, I am anxious that those who are intellectually inclined read how a brilliant atheist came to accept the message. The book is $2.25.
The Four Loves by C. S. Lewis is his dissertation on the differences involved in affection, friendship, eros and charity. He "explores the questions of sex, possessiveness, jealousy, pride, false sentimentality, good and bad manners in loving, and the need for more laughter between lovers." Lewis concludes that "hell is the only place outside of heaven where we can be safe from the dangers of love." We will mail you a copy for $1.95.
God In The Dock is a 350 page book of essays on theology and ethics by C. S. Lewis, edited by Walter Hooper. If you want to be challenged to think this one will force you to do so. The "dock" is the witness stand in a British court and God is placed on trial and you will appreciate the wealth of material from this tremendous reasoner and writer. The book is $3.45.
Christian Reflections, is one of my favorites by C. S. Lewis. In his article "On Church Music" he writes, "Neither the greatest excellence of a trained performance from the choir, nor the heartiest and most enthusiastic bellowing from the pews, must be taken to signify that any specifically religious activity is going on." The book is $2.25 per copy.
On a slightly different level I want to suggest a couple of books for those in college who run into questions about the reliability of the gospel and whether it can be defended in this intellectual age. The Defence Of The Gospel by F. F. Bruce is excellent. It is $1.75. By the same author is the book The New Testament Documents--Are They Reliable? It is only $1.50. We think everyone ought to read this and be assured of the faith.
Happiness Is Still Home Made, by T. Cecil Myers, ought to be presented to every young couple in the congregation and all the older ones too. It is an inspirational paperback for only 95c per copy. Grace Is Not A Blue-Eyed Blond is a book which cuts away the underbrush and gets to the real meaning of words like grace, sin, hypocrisy, security, friendship, forgiveness, love, temptation and faith. It will challenge you to think. It is 95c.
We are getting a lot of new readers each month and we want to tell them that only two of my books are in print The Question Box contains all of the papers for last year. It is $3.00, and will be gone in a few months. The Parable of Telstar contains sixteen of my talks in an attractive book for $2.95. Send for our free Books Lists 74-A, 74-B, and 74-C.
