It was my privilege to be speaker at the opening service marking the Centennial at Minier, Illinois. My speech on November 1, was exactly one hundred years after the congregation was planted by George Minier, a contemporary of Alexander Campbell and Barton W. Stone.... We had three meetings daily at Saint Louis, Michigan, where Henry J. McAdams serves, and brethren came from many congregations to share with us in a rich learning experience.... Turner, October 31, at Independence, Missouri, and that of Ellis Hots, Late, Arkansas, November 11. We have known them both for many years.... I was interested in seeing two articles on "Christ and Psychiatry" in recent issues of Christianity Today. The author was our longtime friend and brother Dr. Malcolm N. Beck, of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, in the Maritimes. Malcolm is past president of the Canadian Psychiatric Association.... We were distressed to learn that our brother, Sam Lawing, of Clinton, Missouri suffered a heart attack, October 27. He is a former elder of the congregation meeting at 5906 Kenwood Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri.... Brethren who have been in Great Britain will be saddened to learn of the death of our brother Willie Steele of the Hyvot's Bank congregation in Edinburgh. Brother Steele departed this life September 8.... Those who have met with the saints at Kentish Town in London will be interested in learning that the congregation held its 103rd Anniversary Meeting on October 5, with Paul Janes as speaker for the occasion. I would like to have been there.... The Discovery of Life Conference will be held at the Sheraton Hotel, French Lick, Indiana, March 7-9. The main speaker is Tom Mullen of Earlham School of Religion, Richmond, Indiana. Other outstanding resource persons are also on the list. Nash, the outstanding Professor of Greek at Kentucky Christian College, points to an error in our October issue, in which I said the conjunction kai was "from an original which joins two words, the latter of which defines and explains the former." He says "the real reason that pastors and teachers refer to the same office or functioning gift to use your term is the so-called Granville Sharps's rule." Don is absolutely correct and my statement was ill-advised.... We set a new mailing record for our November issue, but that happened every month but one in 1974. It looks as if we are just getting started.... The auditorium at Beaverton, Oregon was filled every night for our series of studies and the daytime forums reached approximately one hundred in attendance, with brethren coming from many places in that area.
