ABOUT THE ELECTRONIC EDITION
Ernie Stefanik's Walter Scott's Contributions to The Protestant
Unionist (1844-1848) has been compiled from the microfilm
produced for the Pennsylvania Newspaper Project by the State Library of
Pennsylvania in 1988. While produced from the best copies available,
some pages are obscured by bleed-through of ink from the versos to the
rectos of pages. Sincere thanks to Adams Memorial Library, Latrobe, PA,
for arranging for the extended interlibrary loan of the microfilm from
the State Library of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA.
This compilation is in every sense a first draft, produced from a
single review of the issues of The Protestant Unionist during
late December 2001 and early January 2002. A second review
(D. V.) is planned. It will focus not only on the
contributions of Walter Scott, but also those by other writers of the
Restoration Movement (Robert H. Forrester, William Baxter, James
Challen, Jacob Creath, Jr., Robert Richardson, et al.).
Addenda and corrigenda are earnestly solicited.
