From Elder D. S. Warner.
BRO. FORNEY.--My second meeting was held in a school-house in Crawford county, Ohio. We had a good order and good attention. Soon a deep seriousness was manifested, which with many grew into sin-sickness. One young man came out and found the Lord. A number more were about to follow when the devil made use of an old formalist to "shut up the kingdom of heaven against men." (Mat. xxiii. 13.) Some of his children were under deep conviction, and desired to seek religion, but he forbade them to come out, threatening to drive them from home, disinherit them, etc. They gave way to those threats, and being prominent in society, their associates would not go forward without him. Hence, all tried to work off their convictions, some even absenting themselves from the meeting. Soon the Spirit of God was grieved away, and I closed the meeting, having made many friends in the truth and sowed seed which I hope will bring fruit in the future. A bold and shrewd infidel in the district was favorable to the meeting, and we might call him almost a Christian when compared with the poor bigoted sectarian above referred to.
From there I went and assisted Brothers Jenner and Kline in a meeting at New Haven; and later, Bro. Kline at Union, Huron county. Yesterday in company with Bro. W. P. Burchart I came by railroad to Bro. Smith's, Marion co., Ohio. Found the brother and family well. I expect to preach some on his charge, and then try to open a mission in Hardin county.
