REV. DANIEL WHITLEY.

R EV. DANIEL WHITLEY was born about 1776, and died at his home in Smithfield, Isle of Wight county, Virginia, January 3, 1848, in his sixty-fifth year. In early life he became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and continued in that church for many years. In 1821, he began to preach in the Christian Church, having become a member of it a few months previous to his receiving license. When he united with the Christian Church, his wife joined the church with him. She died November 19, 1838.

At the Eastern Virginia Conference at Union meeting [70] house in Southampton county, in 1828, he was a representative from Antioch, with David Roberts. He was stationed as pastor of Will's chapel at this Conference. In 1834, he was with Rev. Burwell Barrett in a meeting at Barrett's chapel, in Southampton county. The meeting known as the adjourned meeting of the Eastern Virginia Conference met at Antioch, Isle of Wight county, in 1838, and Elder Daniel Whitley and Josiah P. Gay were the representatives of the church at this place in this meeting.

He served as pastor of Antioch, Barrett's, Will's [Well's] chapel, and possibly other churches. He was a faithful worker in the vineyard of the Lord for nearly twenty years, and his memory is still revered.
