The Missing Link
The International Congress of Zoology, meeting in London, admitted that
the missing link between man and apes is still missing. This may be good news to both parties.
In spite of frantic searching for something to close the gap, and the fabrication of hairy,
beetle-browed "ancestors" from a few bone fragments, further research has always treed the apes
and knocked man off the limb. This latest congress unseated the fossil primate Proconsul
africanus, which had been touted as a possible relative of both men and apes. Two
University of London anatomists admitted that recent discovery of the forearm bones of the
creature, shows it had no connection with man, and they sent Proconsul on his way, gaily
swinging from limb to limb, in a manner that even Tarzan could not imitate. The evolutionists
have shown themselves to be the greatest believers of the age. They can believe more on
less grounds than any other group of which we know. Every find from the fossil boneyard
produces a spasm of speculation which turns into "faith." But subsequent finds demonstrate that
monkeys did not become men. If someone will now discover ways of keeping men from making
monkeys of themselves, we will have the problem solved. The Darwinian speculation is a
discredited theory, not an accepted fact, despite articles in Life magazine.
