Noah, Daniel, Job
These three men, Ezekiel 14:14-20, were neither scholars, warriors, kings
or statesmen, but pre-eminently men of faith. In case of extreme wickedness when God would
judge the land and penalize the people, such characters as these men would be exempt because
of their piety. In other words, their good behavior would be legal tender at the throne of grace
(Heb. 4:16). This citation contains the greatest eulogy ever given in favor of any man except
Jesus himself. It contains the heart of God, the wisdom of God and the word of God, written by a
man of God to show the world what kind of conduct pleased the Lord and what he would honor.
This bulletin board has been before the world for 29 centuries and the principle has not changed.
Let us study each character for our own good.
Noah was righteous and obeyed God who saved him (Heb. 11:7). Daniel
was a true prophet thrown to the lions, but delivered by an angel (Dan. 6:22). Job was given to
Satan for trial, but his conduct pleased the Lord who gave him an honorable discharge (Job
42:10). This lesson teaches that, though the land be ravished by war, stricken with pestilence or
threatened by famine, the Lord can and will take care of his own. We can all be faithful as
servants, but not perfect as men. --A. H. Moore.
