Concourse on Unity

[Page 14]
More than five hundred persons from twenty-one states, Mexico and the Philippines, assembled in Denver, Colorado, July 1-7, for a study of problems related to unity of the believers in Christ. All meetings were held in Grange Auditorium under auspices of the congregation at 46th and Miller Streets, of which Bert Lawton and Everett Allen are elders. Sisters of the congregation served two meals daily to all who attended. Leland King presided over all of the sessions in a masterful manner.

Speakers included Harold Shasteen, Shelbyville, Illinois; Elbridge Linn, Whittier, California; Dean Garrison, Farmington, New Mexico; Victor Richards, El Paso, Texas; Philip Lydic, Phoenix, Arizona; W. Carl Ketcherside, Saint Louis, Missouri; Ellis Crum, Kendallville, Indiana; Vernon Hurst, Cody, Wyoming; Darrell Bolin, Lock Haven, Pennsylvania; Thomas Langford, Lubbock, Texas; Otis Gatewood, Rochester, Michigan; Allen Sommer, Indianapolis, Indiana; Charles Conger, M. F. Cottrell, Leroy Durley and Jack Schlieker, all of Denver.

A panel session featured a discussion of "The Holy Spirit and Unity" and three other forums provided an opportunity for the audience to question the speakers. The entire series was characterized by the seriousness and depth of the messages. Many segments of the disciple brotherhood were represented but the fraternal spirit was excellent. The daily studies were preceded by a devotional program directed by Alton Pace, Riverside, California.

All speeches and question periods were tape recorded and a copy of any two hour session may be obtained for only $1.25 by writing to John Patrick, 755 South Raleigh, Denver 19 Colorado.

An invitation was read to the assembly from the Wynnewood congregation in Dallas, Texas, which is arranging a similar study for June 30--July 7, 1963. The Dallas series will be called "Study in Depth" and Leroy Garrett and W. Carl Ketcherside have been invited to share in the teaching with others. This will be an excellent opportunity for the "fellowship of the concerned" to gather for spiritual research.
