The Hartford (Ill.) Forum on "The Holy Spirit in Our Lives Today," held on December 27, 28, attracted capacity crowds on both nights, with attendants from many states stretching from North Carolina to California. The panel session in which questions were taken directly from the audience for two hours was enlivened by discussion of the modern gift of tongues, since one of the speakers testified to having exercised this gift upon five or six occasions. Participants were drawn from Disciples of Christ, Independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ.

Speakers and their subjects were: Lavern Houtz, President of Southeastern Christian College, Winchester, Kentucky, "The Personality of the Holy Spirit"; Walter L. Spratt, President of Central Christian College, Moberly, Missouri, "The Holy Spirit: Baptism and Gift"; Richard Phillips, Professor of Philosophy, Lincoln Christian Seminary, Lincoln, Illinois, "The Holy Spirit and the Gift of Tongues"; Roy Key, Minister of First Christian Church, Ames, Iowa, "The Spirit and the Prayer Life"; Paul Eckstein, Evangelist for Clear Lake Church of Christ, Springfield, Illinois, "The Fruit of the Spirit"; Loran Biggs, Minister of Normandie Avenue Christian Church, Gardena, California, "The All Sufficient Spirit of Christ"; W. Carl Ketcherside, Editor of MISSION MESSENGER, St. Louis, Missouri, "Illumination and Revelation"; Leroy Garrett, Professor of Philosophy at Texas Women's University, Denton, Texas, "The Holy Spirit in History."
