David King

[Page 30]

When Nell and I were in Great Britain working with the saints, a good brother made me a present of a copy of the book "Memoir of David King" as written by his wife, Louise. I read the book with deep appreciation and interest while abroad and often referred to it when I returned to the United States. I became convinced that David King was to the restoration movement in his land what Alexander Campbell, a contemporary, was in this land. So entranced was I with his writings that I helped to select this volume for reproduction in the Restoration Reprint Library.

Now that this new edition is off the press I am particularly happy that I made the recommendation that it be returned to print. David King was a remarkable man as you will learn by reading the 62 page memoir of his life, written by Joseph Collin. There has always been a question as to whether Sister King selected the best of his writings for inclusion in the volume but I am quite satisfied with this generous sample (490 pages) of his works, although he was a voluminous writer. It is our fervent hope that all will read his 100 page treatment of "Ministry in the Church of Christ." Some of the things he says will shake the brethren in our day, but it is possible that we need to be shaken on the theme of ministry. I have no hesitancy in saying that the publisher's price of $5.95 is not too great for this volume. We will be glad to mail you a copy of this book upon order and we trust you will read it prayerfully and in meditation.
