Book Talk

It is with some regret that we must tell you that the volume entitled One Great Chapter is about to go out of print. There are less than a hundred copies left. This book is the bound volume of our paper for 1971, and it contains all my material on the eighth chapter of Romans, with three articles on the twelfth chapter. It has been said to contain the most thrilling exposition of this portion of Romans between two covers, and many are using it in classes and study groups. The price of the book is only $2.95 per copy.

We hope that you will pardon us for mentioning again the book of sermons entitled The Parable of Telstar and Other Talks. This is my book of sixteen messages, delivered last year to all kinds of groups. The reports from those who have read it have all been very favorable and we should like for you to read it and share it with your children or grandchildren who may be in high school or college. Some of the talks "zero in" on their problems. The book is only $2.95 and we think that it will make an excellent gift for a friend.

I wonder if you have seen the book Masters of Deception. It is a Christian analysis of the anti-Biblical teachings of the Jehovah's Witnesses, and it contains clear-cut suggestions for refuting their teachings. This is one of the most readable and well-documented works that I have seen. It sells for $2.45, but while you are getting it you ought also to secure Thirty Years a Watchtower Slave, by William J. Schnell. It has been issued in a 192-page paperback for only $1.50, and if you have not read it before this is your opportunity!

John C. Whitcomb, Jr., has an attractive new book called The Early Earth. It is beautifully illustrated and contains 144 pages dealing with the creation in five chapters: The Nature of Biblical Creation; The Creation of the Universe; The Creation of Plants and Animals; The Creation of Mankind; and Was the Earth Originally a Chaos? This is one to read and to loan. It is only $1.50.

We should like to make you a proposition. If you will send us $3.35 we'll send you two books by William Barclay which will mean a lot to you. Turning to God is a study of conversion in the book of Acts and today. Barclay writes, "Baptism was not by sprinkling, but by immersion, and the symbolism of baptism is peculiarly fitted to signify the cleansing of forgiveness." God's Young Church deals with God's Church, God's Challenge, God's Men, and you'll find a lot of suggestions you can use. We suggest that you include these in your summer reading programs. Busy as I am, I have resolved to refresh my own mind with a lot of good reading this summer, and I intend to take a book with me everywhere I go, including the bathroom, which Nell calls my "second library."

Once more, if you will suffer me to refer to it, I should like to tell you that a lot of folk think The Royal Priesthood is the best of my 25 volumes and this fact has sent it into an extra edition. I revised it so that it would be more relevant to our contemporary problems. It deals with a study of priesthood from the very beginning, but emphasizes the priesthood of all believers and the ministry of all the saints, as opposed to the rise of a clerical caste which defeats God's purpose. If you are interested in recapturing God's ideal for service you will like the book a lot. It is $3.50 per copy.
