Book Talk

Did you miss The Taste of New Wine, by Keith Miller, the first time it made its rounds? More than 610,000 hardback copies were sold. It must have been saying something which got to people. For instance, the author thinks that one of the key reasons for marital infidelity is that men and their wives do not listen to one another. He says, "Having a mistress, for instance, is having one who really knows a man's weakness and listens to him and accepts him anyway, just as he is." The book is now $1.25.

Happiness is Still Home Made, by T. Cecil Myers, is one we would like to have you read. Some of the chapters are "Successful Marriage is Like a Three Legged Stool; To Keep Moonlight and Roses from Becoming Daylight and Dishes; Frayed and Frustrated or Finished and Fruitful; And Now You Live Dispersed on Ribbon Roads. This is the kind of practical book you will want to talk about and hand to friends to read, and it is only 95c.

The Liberty of Obedience, by Elisabeth Elliott, could make you think like you haven't thought in a long time. This is a book about maturity and about the strange chains which bind any Christian, and prevent his achieving maturity as a person. Elisabeth Elliott came to grips with this when she lived with the Auca Indians. We'd like to have you read it. It also is 95c.

No Longer Strangers, by Bruce Larson, is the answer of the author to the question, "What does it really mean to be a Christian?" The last chapter is about a new church for a new day. A lot of things in the book will challenge you and some of them will upset you. That is why you need to read it. Most of us can stand a little challenging, or at least I can. $1.25 per copy.

Burning Bushes and Moon Walks, by Calvin Miller is another challenging one. In the chapter on "The Hucksters" he deals with peddling sex by the media, and some of his quotations are fantastic. He starts with the words of Norman Vincent Peale, "A house built on sand will not last, and neither will a civilization built on dirt," and then goes on with some terrific writing. The price of this book is only $1.95 per copy.

If you send for the above and your order is less than $3.00, will you include an extra 25c for postage? We hope that while sending you will also include your order for The Question Box containing all of the copies of our paper for 1973, and for The Parable of Telstar containing sixteen of my talks. The price of each of these is $2.95 and that's a bargain!
