Book Talk

I have just finished reading The Yoke of Christ, by Elton Trueblood, for the second time. I was more moved than I was the first time I read it, although it got through to me then. Every chapter is impressive. A few of them are outstanding. That is especially true of The Power of Small Fellowships; A Faith For Scientists; The Ministry of Daily Work; and The Abolition of the Laity. There are eighteen sermons in all. The book has recently been reprinted again and we can mail you one for $2.95. Please read it!

Brother E. M. Zerr, now deceased, was the only man in the restoration movement to write a commentary on the entire Bible. A lot of it was written in our home. It was "a commentary for the common man." We have a limited supply of the complete commentary on the New Testament scriptures and we can send you one for $7.00. It will make a nice gift for a young Christian.

I suppose that all of our readers have heard of Halley's Bible Handbook, one of the most unique books in the world. There are more than three million copies in circulation, and it has been translated into ten foreign languages. In February the 41st printing of the book came from the press in an 860-page volume containing excellent material. It is $5.95 per copy.

Everyone is looking for a gift which will be appropriate for young people and for those who are new in the faith, a gift which will help them get the gist of God's revelation which seems so complex to the beginning Bible student. We think you should give the beautiful Hurlbut's Story of the Bible, containing 168 stories and 192 illustrations. The cost is $7.95 and those who receive one from you will always be grateful. If you'd like a paperback edition as a gift for each member of a class, the cost is $1.25 each.

Maybe it was because of the time that I spent in Great Britain that I am so intrigued by the wonderful book The Memoirs of David King, but I do not think your knowledge of the extent of the restoration movement will ever be complete until you read it. I began it one cold night in Scotland, with an eider down quilt pulled up about my chin. I had retired to bed following a long day of walking in a howling blizzard and I was tired. But I read and read and could hardly stop reading. Later, on the ship returning to our shores I read the book again. We can mail you one now for $6.00.

Do you have a copy of The New International Version of the New Testament? I think it is an excellent one and I suspect that more and more of us will be using it because of its accuracy and helpful rendering. I want to sit down and read mine completely through for the insights it brings. Why not secure one, read it and mark it as you go? It is $5.95 per copy.

There are two commentaries on Revelation by pioneers, which are now back in print. I read them both when I was a lad living on a small farm. Most boys today are not that interested in Revelation, but I was. The two books are The Vision of the Ages, by B. W. Johnson; and The Voice of the Seven Thunders, by J. L. Martin. They are $4.00 each, and when I was a boy every home where the folk could read had a copy of each. They are heirlooms.
