Some of the Business Transactions of the Convention

Inasmuch as the business relating to the general interests of the brotherhood is transacted in the sessions of the American Christian Missionary Society, some things of universal interest should be noted.

Through the New England Missionary Society, the ministers of the Baptist Church in New England, and members of the Baptist Ministerial Conference of Boston, made the following appeal for the next Convention of the Disciples:

To the New England Christian Missionary Society (of the Disciples of Christ), convening

in Haverhill, Mass., Sept. 9-12, 1909, Greeting:

We, ministers of the Baptist Church in New England, and members of the Baptist Ministerial Conference of Boston, believing that the two great bodies of Christians, known as Disciples of Christ and Baptists, should be united into one body as speedily as it is possible to bring it about consistently with the principles of both, rejoicing in the advance that has already been made toward that end, as seen in the actual union of churches in various localities, as well as in fraternal commingling in congresses and conventions and evangelistic efforts, and desiring to aid in this great work in an effective manner, hereby heartily pledge ourselves to use our influence in causing our conference, on Sept. 20, 1909, to cordially second your invitation to the National Boards of the Disciples, for October, 1910, to Boston. Furthermore, we will do all in our power to assist in making that National Convention a success, should it come to Boston, especially in the way of strong, effective, practical steps toward the union of the two peoples.

Praying that your action in Haverhill upon this move may be as cordial, harmonious, earnest and prayerful as our own, we subscribe ourselves,
Your brethren in Christ,
CORTLAND MYERS,
FRANCIS H. ROWLEY, First Baptist Church, Boston.
EDWARD P. TULLER, Brighton Avenue Baptist Church, Boston.

JOSEPH S. SWAIM, Pastor Portland Street Church, Haverhill, Mass.
FREDERICK C. GREUL, Pastor First Baptist Church, Haverhill, Mass.
SILAS S. MORSE, Pastor Mt. Washington Baptist Church.

This appeal was presented by Gilbert L. Harney, of Boston, who moved: "That a fraternal delegation, consisting of five of our strong representative ministers in active work, be appointed by this Convention to visit the Boston Baptist Ministerial Conference in the near future to carry the greetings of this Convention, and promote the feeling of Christian union which is so strongly [226] and rapidly rising. The names of this delegation to be announced before the final close of this Convention."

The motion was carried unanimously, the and the Chair appointed on this committee: Peter Ainslie, Chairman; W. R. Warren, A. McLean, S. T. Willis, I. N. McCash.
