1:1 senior Gaio carissimo quem ego 1. The elder unto the wellbeloved
diligo in veritate Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
1:2 carissime de omnibus orationem 2. Beloved, I wish above all things
facio prospere te ingredi et valere that thou mayest prosper and be in
sicut prospere agit anima tua health, even as thy soul prospereth.
1:3 gavisus sum valde venientibus 3. For I rejoiced greatly, when the
fratribus et testimonium perhibentibus brethren came and testified of the
veritati tuae sicut tu in veritate truth that is in thee, even as thou
ambulas walkest in the truth.
1:4 maiorem horum non habeo gratiam 4. I have no greater joy than to hear
quam ut audiam filios meos in veritate that my children walk in truth.

1:5 carissime fideliter facis quicquid 5. Beloved, thou doest faithfully
operaris in fratres et hoc in peregrinos whatsoever thou doest to the brethren,
                                             and to strangers;

1:7 pro nomine enim profecti sunt 7. Because that for his name's sake
nihil accipientes a gentibus they went forth, taking nothing of the
                                             Gentiles.
1:8 nos ergo debemus suscipere 8. We therefore ought to receive
huiusmodi ut cooperatores simus such, that we might be fellowhelpers to

1:9 scripsissem forsitan ecclesiae sed 9. I wrote unto the church: but
is qui amat primatum gerere in eis Diotrephes, who loveth to have the

1:10 propter hoc si venero commoneam 10. Wherefore, if I come, I will

                                             church.
1:11 carissime noli imitari malum sed 11. Beloved, follow not that which is
quod bonum est qui benefacit ex Deo est evil, but that which is good. He that
qui malefacit non vidit Deum doeth good is of God: but he that doeth
                                             evil hath not seen God.
1:12 Demetrio testimonium redditur ab 12. Demetrius hath good report of all
omnibus et ab ipsa veritate et nos men, and of the truth itself: yea, and
autem testimonium perhibemus et nosti we also bear record; and ye know that
quoniam testimonium nostrum verum est our record is true.
