1:1  Paulus vinctus Iesu Christi et          1.   Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ,
Timotheus frater Philemoni dilecto et        and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon
adiutori nostro                              our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,
1:2  et Appiae sorori et Archippo            2.   And to our beloved Apphia, and
commilitoni nostro et ecclesiae quae in      Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the
domo tua est                                 church in thy house:
1:3  gratia vobis et pax a Deo Patre         3.   Grace to you, and peace, from God
nostro et Domino Iesu Christo                our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:4  gratias ago Deo meo semper              4.   I thank my God, making mention of
memoriam tui faciens in orationibus meis     thee always in my prayers,
1:5  audiens caritatem tuam et fidem         5.   Hearing of thy love and faith,
quam habes in Domino Iesu et in omnes        which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus,
sanctos                                      and toward all saints;
1:6  ut communicatio fidei tuae evidens      6.   That the communication of thy
fiat in agnitione omnis boni in nobis        faith may become effectual by the
in Christo Iesu                              acknowledging of every good thing which
                                             is in you in Christ Jesus.
1:7  gaudium enim magnum habui et            7.   For we have great joy and
consolationem in caritate tua quia           consolation in thy love, because the

1:8  propter quod multam fiduciam            8.   Wherefore, though I might be much

1:10  obsecro te de meo filio quem           10.   I beseech thee for my son
genui in vinculis Onesimo                    Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my
                                             bonds:
1:11  qui tibi aliquando inutilis fuit       11.   Which in time past was to thee
nunc autem et tibi et mihi utilis            unprofitable, but now profitable to
                                             thee and to me:
1:12  quem remisi tu autem illum id est      12.   Whom I have sent again: thou
mea viscera suscipe                          therefore receive him, that is, mine
                                             own bowels:
1:13  quem ego volueram mecum detinere       13.   Whom I would have retained with
ut pro te mihi ministraret in vinculis       me, that in thy stead he might have
evangelii                                    ministered unto me in the bonds of the
                                             gospel:
1:14  sine consilio autem tuo nihil          14.   But without thy mind would I do
volui facere uti ne velut ex                 nothing; that thy benefit should not be
necessitate bonum tuum esset sed             as it were of necessity, but willingly.

1:15  forsitan enim ideo discessit ad        15.   For perhaps he therefore departed
horam a te ut aeternum illum recipere        for a season, that thou shouldest
                                             receive him for ever;
1:16  iam non ut servum sed plus servo       16.   Not now as a servant, but above a
carissimum fratrem maxime mihi quanto        servant, a brother beloved, specially
autem magis tibi et in carne et in           to me, but how much more unto thee,
Domino                                       both in the flesh, and in the Lord?
1:17  si ergo habes me socium suscipe        17.   If thou count me therefore a
illum sicut me                               partner, receive him as myself.
1:18  si autem aliquid nocuit tibi aut       18.   If he hath wronged thee, or oweth
debet hoc mihi inputa                        thee ought, put that on mine account;
1:19  ego Paulus scripsi mea manu ego        19.   I Paul have written it with mine
reddam ut non dicam tibi quod et te          own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do
ipsum mihi debes                             not say to thee how thou owest unto me
                                             even thine own self besides.
1:20  ita frater ego te fruar in Domino      20.   Yea, brother, let me have joy of
refice viscera mea in Domino                 thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in
                                             the Lord.
1:21  confidens oboedientia tua scripsi      21.   Having confidence in thy
tibi sciens quoniam et super id quod         obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing
dico facies                                  that thou wilt also do more than I say.
1:22  simul autem et para mihi               22.   But withal prepare me also a
hospitium nam spero per orationes            lodging: for I trust that through your
vestras donari me vobis                      prayers I shall be given unto you.
1:23  salutat te Epaphras concaptivus        23.   There salute thee Epaphras, my
meus in Christo Iesu                         fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;
1:24  Marcus Aristarchus Demas Lucas         24.   Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas,

1:25  gratia Domini nostri Iesu Christi      25.   The grace of our Lord Jesus
