In preparing the contributions to periodicals section the following
reprints have been consulted: The Christian Baptist (Joplin, MO:
College Press, 1983), a reprint of the edition revised by D. S. Burnet
from the second edition (Cincinnati, OH: D. S. Burnet, 1835);
Millennial Harbinger (Joplin, MO: College Press, 1976).

See signature on p. 598, "T. W. alias Thos. Campbell."

Gary L. Lee in his "Index of the Christian Baptist" (in the
College Press reprint, 1983) attributes this unsigned extract of a
letter to Thomas Campbell. I have not been able to determine Lee's
source for this information; however, it is a reasonable attribution
inasmuch as Thomas Campbell is named as one of the witnesses to the
constitution.

ABOUT THE BIBLIOGRAPHY
This preliminary bibliography of the works of Thomas Campbell has been
compiled from the card catalog of the Disciples of Christ Historical
Society;
Claude E. Spenser's An Author Catalog of Disciples of Christ and
Related Religious Groups (Canton, MO: Disciples of Christ
Historical Society, 1946);
The National Union Catalog of Pre-1956 Imprints;
"Thomas Campbell, 1763-1854 . . . Books by and about Him,"
Discipliana 20 (January 1961): 81-81;
David I. McWhirter's An Index to the Millennial Harbinger
(Joplin, MO: College Press, 1981);
Gary L. Lee's "Index to the Burnet Edition of the Christian
Baptist" in The Christian Baptist (Joplin, MO: College
Press, 1983);
and William Herbert Hanna's Thomas Campbell: Seceder and Christian
Union Advocate (Cincinnati, OH: Standard Publishing, 1935;
reprinted, Joplin, MO: College Press, 1986).
The online catalogs of Abilene Christian
University and Pepperdine University libraries have been consulted to
verify and clarify information. Only a few of the books have been
examined by the compiler. Campbell's contributions to a few books
are not specifically identified in the catalogs.
The bibliography is arranged chronologically by date of publication and
alphabetically by publisher within each of the six major headings.
This compilation is termed "preliminary" because further research is
required, for example, to locate additional editions and reprintings of
the separate publications; to determine whether other essays, articles,
and letters by Thomas Campbell were first published (or later
reprinted) in other periodicals; and to define his contributions as
pro tem editor of the Christian Baptist and Millennial
Harbinger.
Thanks to Elaine Philpott for providing copies of the cards for
holdings of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society.
Thanks to R. Jeanne Cobb, Archivist and Special Collections
Coordinator, for providing information regarding the letters by Thomas
Campbell held at T. W. Phillips Memorial Library, Bethany College.
Addenda and corrigenda are earnestly solicited.
