3:1  hanc ecce vobis carissimi secundam      1.  This second epistle, beloved, I now
scribo Epistolam in quibus excito            write unto you; in both which I stir up
vestram in commonitione sinceram mentem      your pure minds by way of remembrance:

3:2  ut memores sitis eorum quae             2.  That ye may be mindful of the words
praedixi verborum a sanctis prophetis        which were spoken before by the holy
et apostolorum vestrorum praeceptorum        prophets, and of the commandment of us
Domini et salvatoris                         the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3:3  hoc primum scientes quod venient        3.  Knowing this first, that there
in novissimis diebus in deceptione           shall come in the last days scoffers,
inlusores iuxta proprias                     walking after their own lusts,
concupiscentias ambulantes

3:4  dicentes ubi est promissio aut          4.  And saying, Where is the promise of
adventus eius ex quo enim patres             his coming? for since the fathers fell
dormierunt omnia sic perseverant ab          asleep, all things continue as they
initio creaturae                             were from the beginning of the creation.

3:5  latet enim eos hoc volentes quod        5.  For this they willingly are
caeli erant prius et terra de aqua et        ignorant of, that by the word of God
per aquam consistens Dei verbo               the heavens were of old, and the earth
                                             standing out of the water and in the
                                             water:

3:6  per quae ille tunc mundus aqua          6.  Whereby the world that then was,
inundatus periit                             being overflowed with water, perished:

3:7  caeli autem qui nunc sunt et terra      7.  But the heavens and the earth,
eodem verbo repositi sunt igni servati       which are now, by the same word are
in diem iudicii et perditionis impiorum      kept in store, reserved unto fire
hominum                                      against the day of judgment and
                                             perdition of ungodly men.

3:8  unum vero hoc non lateat vos            8.  But, beloved, be not ignorant of
carissimi quia unus dies apud Dominum        this one thing, that one day is with
sicut mille anni et mille anni sicut         the Lord as a thousand years, and a
dies unus                                    thousand years as one day.

3:9  non tardat Dominus promissi sed         9.  The Lord is not slack concerning
patienter agit propter vos nolens            his promise, as some men count
aliquos perire sed omnes ad                  slackness; but is longsuffering to
paenitentiam reverti                         us-ward, not willing that any should
                                             perish, but that all should come to
                                             repentance.

3:10  adveniet autem dies Domini ut fur      10.  But the day of the Lord will come
in qua caeli magno impetu transient          as a thief in the night; in the which
elementa vero calore solventur               the heavens shall pass away with a
                                             great noise, and the elements shall
                                             melt with fervent heat, the earth also
                                             and the works that are therein shall be
                                             burned up.

3:11  cum haec igitur omnia dissolvenda      11.  Seeing then that all these things
sint quales oportet esse vos in sanctis      shall be dissolved, what manner of
conversationibus et pietatibus               persons ought ye to be in all holy
                                             conversation and godliness,

3:12  expectantes et properantes in          12.  Looking for and hasting unto the
adventum Dei diei per quam caeli             coming of the day of God, wherein the
ardentes solventur et elementa ignis         heavens being on fire shall be
ardore tabescent                             dissolved, and the elements shall melt
                                             with fervent heat?

3:13  novos vero caelos et novam terram      13.  Nevertheless we, according to his
et promissa ipsius expectamus in quibus      promise, look for new heavens and a new
iustitia habitat                             earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

3:14  propter quod carissimi haec            14.  Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye
expectantes satis agite inmaculati et        look for such things, be diligent that
inviolati ei inveniri in pace                ye may be found of him in peace,
                                             without spot, and blameless.

3:15  et Domini nostri longanimitatem        15.  And account that the longsuffering
salutem arbitramini sicut et carissimus      of our Lord is salvation; even as our
frater noster Paulus secundum datam          beloved brother Paul also according to
sibi sapientiam scripsit vobis               the wisdom given unto him hath written
                                             unto you;

3:16  sicut et in omnibus epistulis          16.  As also in all his epistles,
loquens in eis de his in quibus sunt         speaking in them of these things; in
quaedam difficilia intellectu quae           which are some things hard to be
indocti et instabiles depravant sicut        understood, which they that are
et ceteras scripturas ad suam ipsorum        unlearned and unstable wrest, as they
perditionem                                  do also the other scriptures, unto
                                             their own destruction.

3:17  vos igitur fratres praescientes        17.  Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye
custodite ne insipientium errore             know these things before, beware lest
transducti excidatis a propria firmitate     ye also, being led away with the error
                                             of the wicked, fall from your own
                                             stedfastness.

3:18  crescite vero in gratia et in          18.  But grow in grace, and in the
cognitione Domini nostri et salvatoris       knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Iesu Christi ipsi gloria et nunc et in       Christ. To him be glory both now and
die aeternitatis amen .                     for ever. Amen.
