1:1 Paulus et Silvanus et Timotheus 1. Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus,
ecclesiae Thessalonicensium in Deo unto the church of the Thessalonians in
Patre nostro et Domino Iesu Christo God our Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ:
1:2 gratia vobis et pax a Deo Patre 2. Grace unto you, and peace, from God
nostro et Domino Iesu Christo our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:3 gratias agere debemus Deo semper 3. We are bound to thank God always
pro vobis fratres ita ut dignum est for you, brethren, as it is meet,
quoniam supercrescit fides vestra et because that your faith groweth
abundat caritas uniuscuiusque omnium exceedingly, and the charity of every
vestrum in invicem one of you all toward each other
aboundeth;
1:4 ita ut et nos ipsi in vobis 4. So that we ourselves glory in you
gloriemur in ecclesiis Dei pro in the churches of God for your
patientia vestra et fide in omnibus patience and faith in all your
persecutionibus vestris et persecutions and tribulations that ye
tribulationibus quas sustinetis endure:
1:5 in exemplum iusti iudicii Dei ut 5. Which is a manifest token of the
digni habeamini regno Dei pro quo et righteous judgment of God, that ye may
patimini be counted worthy of the kingdom of
God, for which ye also suffer:
1:6 si tamen iustum est apud Deum 6. Seeing it is a righteous thing with
retribuere tribulationem his qui vos God to recompense tribulation to them
tribulant that trouble you;
1:7 et vobis qui tribulamini requiem 7. And to you who are troubled rest
nobiscum in revelatione Domini Iesu de with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be
caelo cum angelis virtutis eius revealed from heaven with his mighty
angels,
1:8 in flamma ignis dantis vindictam 8. In flaming fire taking vengeance on
his qui non noverunt Deum et qui non them that know not God, and that obey
oboediunt evangelio Domini nostri Iesu not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
1:9 qui poenas dabunt in interitu 9. Who shall be punished with
aeternas a facie Domini et a gloria everlasting destruction from the
virtutis eius presence of the Lord, and from the
glory of his power;
1:10 cum venerit glorificari in 10. When he shall come to be glorified
sanctis suis et admirabilis fieri in in his saints, and to be admired in all
omnibus qui crediderunt quia creditum them that believe (because our
est testimonium nostrum super vos in testimony among you was believed) in
die illo that day.
1:11 in quo etiam oramus semper pro 11. Wherefore also we pray always for
vobis ut dignetur vos vocatione sua you, that our God would count you
Deus et impleat omnem voluntatem worthy of this calling, and fulfil all
bonitatis et opus fidei in virtute the good pleasure of his goodness, and
the work of faith with power:
1:12 ut clarificetur nomen Domini 12. That the name of our Lord Jesus
nostri Iesu Christi in vobis et vos in Christ may be glorified in you, and ye
illo secundum gratiam Dei nostri et in him, according to the grace of our
Domini Iesu Christi God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
