2:1 rogamus autem vos fratres per 1. Now we beseech you, brethren, by
adventum Domini nostri Iesu Christi et the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,
nostrae congregationis in ipsum and by our gathering together unto him,

2:2 ut non cito moveamini a sensu 2. That ye be not soon shaken in mind,
neque terreamini neque per spiritum or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor
neque per sermonem neque per Epistolam by word, nor by letter as from us, as
tamquam per nos quasi instet dies Domini that the day of Christ is at hand.

2:3 ne quis vos seducat ullo modo 3. Let no man deceive you by any
quoniam nisi venerit discessio primum means: for that day shall not come,
et revelatus fuerit homo peccati filius except there come a falling away first,
perditionis and that man of sin be revealed, the
                                             son of perdition;

2:4 qui adversatur et extollitur supra 4. Who opposeth and exalteth himself
omne quod dicitur Deus aut quod colitur above all that is called God, or that
ita ut in templo Dei sedeat ostendens is worshipped; so that he as God
se quia sit Deus sitteth in the temple of God, shewing
                                             himself that he is God.

2:5 non retinetis quod cum adhuc essem 5. Remember ye not, that, when I was
apud vos haec dicebam vobis yet with you, I told you these things?

2:6 et nunc quid detineat scitis ut 6. And now ye know what withholdeth
reveletur in suo tempore that he might be revealed in his time.

2:7 nam mysterium iam operatur 7. For the mystery of iniquity doth
iniquitatis tantum ut qui tenet nunc already work: only he who now letteth
donec de medio fiat will let, until he be taken out of the
                                             way.

2:8 et tunc revelabitur ille iniquus 8. And then shall that Wicked be
quem Dominus Iesus interficiet spiritu revealed, whom the Lord shall consume
oris sui et destruet inlustratione with the spirit of his mouth, and shall
adventus sui destroy with the brightness of his
                                             coming:

2:9 eum cuius est adventus secundum 9. Even him, whose coming is after the
operationem Satanae in omni virtute et working of Satan with all power and
signis et prodigiis mendacibus signs and lying wonders,

2:10 et in omni seductione iniquitatis 10. And with all deceivableness of
his qui pereunt eo quod caritatem            unrighteousness in them that perish;
veritatis non receperunt ut salvi because they received not the love of
fierent the truth, that they might be saved.

2:11 ideo mittit illis Deus 11. And for this cause God shall send
operationem erroris ut credant mendacio them strong delusion, that they should
                                             believe a lie:

2:12 ut iudicentur omnes qui non 12. That they all might be damned who
crediderunt veritati sed consenserunt believed not the truth, but had
iniquitati pleasure in unrighteousness.

2:13 nos autem debemus gratias agere 13. But we are bound to give thanks
Deo semper pro vobis fratres dilecti a alway to God for you, brethren beloved
Deo quod elegerit nos Deus primitias in of the Lord, because God hath from the
salutem in sanctificatione Spiritus et beginning chosen you to salvation
fide veritatis through sanctification of the Spirit
                                             and belief of the truth:

2:14 ad quod et vocavit vos per 14. Whereunto he called you by our
evangelium nostrum in adquisitionem gospel, to the obtaining of the glory
gloriae Domini nostri Iesu Christi of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2:15 itaque fratres state et tenete 15. Therefore, brethren, stand fast,
traditiones quas didicistis sive per and hold the traditions which ye have
sermonem sive per Epistolam nostram been taught, whether by word, or our
                                             epistle.

2:16 ipse autem Dominus noster Iesus 16. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself,
Christus et Deus et Pater noster qui and God, even our Father, which hath
dilexit nos et dedit consolationem loved us, and hath given us everlasting
aeternam et spem bonam in gratia consolation and good hope through grace,

2:17 exhortetur corda vestra et 17. Comfort your hearts, and stablish
confirmet in omni opere et sermone bono you in every good word and work.
