2:1 tu autem loquere quae decet sanam 1. But speak thou the things which
doctrinam become sound doctrine:
2:2 senes ut sobrii sint pudici 2. That the aged men be sober, grave,
prudentes sani fide dilectione patientia temperate, sound in faith, in charity,
in patience.
2:3 anus similiter in habitu sancto 3. The aged women likewise, that they
non criminatrices non vino multo be in behaviour as becometh holiness,
servientes bene docentes not false accusers, not given to much
wine, teachers of good things;
2:4 ut prudentiam doceant 4. That they may teach the young
adulescentulas ut viros suos ament women to be sober, to love their
filios diligant husbands, to love their children,
2:5 prudentes castas domus curam 5. To be discreet, chaste, keepers at
habentes benignas subditas suis viris home, good, obedient to their own
ut non blasphemetur verbum Dei husbands, that the word of God be not
blasphemed.
2:6 iuvenes similiter hortare ut 6. Young men likewise exhort to be
sobrii sint sober minded.
2:7 in omnibus te ipsum praebe 7. In all things shewing thyself a
exemplum bonorum operum in doctrina pattern of good works: in doctrine
integritatem gravitatem shewing uncorruptness, gravity,
sincerity,
2:8 verbum sanum inreprehensibilem ut 8. Sound speech, that cannot be
is qui ex adverso est vereatur nihil condemned; that he that is of the
habens malum dicere de nobis contrary part may be ashamed, having no
evil thing to say of you.
2:9 servos dominis suis subditos esse 9. Exhort servants to be obedient
in omnibus placentes non contradicentes unto their own masters, and to please

2:10 non fraudantes, sed in omnibus 10. Not purloining, but shewing all
fidem bonam ostendentes ut doctrinam good fidelity; that they may adorn the
salutaris nostri Dei ornent in omnibus doctrine of God our Saviour in all
things.
2:11 apparuit enim gratia Dei 11. For the grace of God that
salutaris omnibus hominibus bringeth salvation hath appeared to all
men,
2:12 erudiens nos ut abnegantes 12. Teaching us that, denying
impietatem et saecularia desideria ungodliness and worldly lusts, we
sobrie et iuste et pie vivamus in hoc should live soberly, righteously, and
saeculo godly, in this present world;
2:13 expectantes beatam spem et 13. Looking for that blessed hope,
adventum gloriae magni Dei et and the glorious appearing of the great
salvatoris nostri Iesu Christi God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
2:14 qui dedit semet ipsum pro nobis 14. Who gave himself for us, that he
ut nos redimeret ab omni iniquitate et might redeem us from all iniquity, and
mundaret sibi populum acceptabilem purify unto himself a peculiar people,
sectatorem bonorum operum zealous of good works.
2:15 haec loquere et exhortare et 15. These things speak, and exhort,
argue cum omni imperio nemo te contemnat and rebuke with all authority. Let no
man despise thee.
