progenitoribus in conscientia pura quam forefathers with pure conscience, that

in orationibus meis nocte ac die thee in my prayers night and day;
1:4 desiderans te videre memor 4. Greatly desiring to see thee, being
lacrimarum tuarum ut gaudio implear mindful of thy tears, that I may be
filled with joy;
1:5 recordationem accipiens eius fidei 5. When I call to remembrance the

habitavit primum in avia tua Loide et dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois,

per inpositionem manuum mearum which is in thee by the putting on of
my hands.
1:7 non enim dedit nobis Deus spiritum 7. For God hath not given us the
timoris sed virtutis et dilectionis et spirit of fear; but of power, and of
sobrietatis love, and of a sound mind.
1:8 noli itaque erubescere testimonium 8. Be not thou therefore ashamed of
Domini nostri neque me vinctum eius sed the testimony of our Lord, nor of me

Dei the afflictions of the gospel according
to the power of God;
1:9 qui nos liberavit et vocavit 9. Who hath saved us, and called us
vocatione sancta non secundum opera with an holy calling, not according to

incorruptionem per evangelium through the gospel:

praedicator et apostolus et magister preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher
gentium of the Gentiles.
1:12 ob quam causam etiam haec patior 12. For the which cause I also suffer
sed non confundor scio enim cui credidi these things: nevertheless I am not
et certus sum quia potens est depositum ashamed: for I know whom I have
meum servare in illum diem believed, and am persuaded that he is
able to keep that which I have
committed unto him against that day.
1:13 formam habe sanorum verborum quae 13. Hold fast the form of sound words,
a me audisti in fide et dilectione in which thou hast heard of me, in faith

Spiritum Sanctum qui habitat in nobis committed unto thee keep by the Holy
Ghost which dwelleth in us.

omnes qui in Asia sunt ex quibus est which are in Asia be turned away from
Phygelus et Hermogenes me; of whom are Phygellus and
Hermogenes.
1:16 det misericordiam Dominus 16. The Lord give mercy unto the house
Onesifori domui quia saepe me of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed
refrigeravit et catenam meam non erubuit me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
1:17 sed cum Romam venisset sollicite 17. But, when he was in Rome, he
me quaesivit et invenit sought me out very diligently, and
found me.
1:18 det illi Dominus invenire 18. The Lord grant unto him that he
misericordiam a Domino in illa die et may find mercy of the Lord in that day:
quanta Ephesi ministravit melius tu and in how many things he ministered
nosti unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very
well.
