4:1  testificor coram Deo et Christo         1.  I charge thee therefore before God,
Iesu qui iudicaturus est vivos ac            and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall
mortuos et adventum ipsius et regnum         judge the quick and the dead at his
eius                                         appearing and his kingdom;

4:2  praedica verbum insta oportune          2.  Preach the word; be instant in
inportune argue obsecra increpa in omni      season, out of season; reprove, rebuke,
patientia et doctrina                        exhort with all longsuffering and
                                             doctrine.

4:3  erit enim tempus cum sanam              3.  For the time will come when they
doctrinam non sustinebunt sed ad sua         will not endure sound doctrine; but
desideria coacervabunt sibi magistros        after their own lusts shall they heap
prurientes auribus                           to themselves teachers, having itching
                                             ears;

4:4  et a veritate quidem auditum            4.  And they shall turn away their ears
avertent ad fabulas autem convertentur       from the truth, and shall be turned
                                             unto fables.

4:5  tu vero vigila in omnibus labora        5.  But watch thou in all things,
opus fac evangelistae ministerium tuum       endure afflictions, do the work of an
imple                                        evangelist, make full proof of thy
                                             ministry.

4:6  ego enim iam delibor et tempus          6.  For I am now ready to be offered,
meae resolutionis instat                     and the time of my departure is at hand.

4:7  bonum certamen certavi cursum           7.  I have fought a good fight, I have
consummavi fidem servavi                     finished my course, I have kept the
                                             faith:

4:8  in reliquo reposita est mihi            8.  Henceforth there is laid up for me
iustitiae corona quam reddet mihi            a crown of righteousness, which the
Dominus in illa die iustus iudex non         Lord, the righteous judge, shall give
solum autem mihi sed et his qui              me at that day: and not to me only, but
diligunt adventum eius                       unto all them also that love his
                                             appearing.

4:9  festina venire ad me cito               9.  Do thy diligence to come shortly
                                             unto me:

4:10  Demas enim me dereliquit diligens      10.  For Demas hath forsaken me, having
hoc saeculum et abiit Thessalonicam          loved this present world, and is
Crescens in Galliam Titus in Dalmatiam       departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to
                                             Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

4:11  Lucas est mecum solus Marcum           11.  Only Luke is with me. Take Mark,
adsume et adduc tecum est enim mihi          and bring him with thee: for he is
utilis in ministerium                        profitable to me for the ministry.

4:12  Tychicum autem misi Ephesum            12.  And Tychicus have I sent to
                                             Ephesus.

4:13  paenulam quam reliqui Troade apud      13.  The cloke that I left at Troas
Carpum veniens adfers et libros maxime       with Carpus, when thou comest, bring
autem membranas                              with thee, and the books, but
                                             especially the parchments.

4:14  Alexander aerarius multa mala          14.  Alexander the coppersmith did me
mihi ostendit reddat ei Dominus              much evil: the Lord reward him
secundum opera eius                          according to his works:

4:15  quem et tu devita valde enim           15.  Of whom be thou ware also; for he
restitit verbis nostris                      hath greatly withstood our words.

4:16  in prima mea defensione nemo mihi      16.  At my first answer no man stood
adfuit sed omnes me dereliquerunt non        with me, but all men forsook me: I pray
illis reputetur                              God that it may not be laid to their
                                             charge.

4:17  Dominus autem mihi adstitit et         17.  Notwithstanding the Lord stood
confortavit me ut per me praedicatio         with me, and strengthened me; that by
impleatur et audiant omnes gentes et         me the preaching might be fully known,
liberatus sum de ore leonis                  and that all the Gentiles might hear:
                                             and I was delivered out of the mouth of
                                             the lion.

4:18  liberabit me Dominus ab omni           18.  And the Lord shall deliver me from
opere malo et salvum faciet in regnum        every evil work, and will preserve me
suum caeleste cui gloria in saecula          unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be
saeculorum amen                              glory for ever and ever. Amen.

4:19  saluta Priscam et Aquilam et           19.  Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the
Onesifori domum                              household of Onesiphorus.

4:20  Erastus remansit Corinthi              20.  Erastus abode at Corinth: but
Trophimum autem reliqui infirmum Mileti      Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.

4:21  festina ante hiemem venire             21.  Do thy diligence to come before
salutat te Eubulus et Pudens et Linus        winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and
et Claudia et fratres omnes                  Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all
                                             the brethren.

4:22  Dominus Iesus cum spiritu tuo          22.  The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy
